Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!

Yeah, but two weeks car rental is pretty expensive. It would sit there unused for most of it. Would prefer four days grab and go from Colosseo

Edit: Actually Poisson you’re right, I just did a quote on Sixt, £430ish for the whole duration which is a lot less than I was expecting, I’ll just do that I think! When I checked last year it was way more probably because I was doing it from Basel.

There used to be a Sixt desk at Colosseo but the last time I looked into this, I couldn't find any mention of it on the Sixt website (no option to drop off or collect there) and there was no desk at the hotel either. I'm not sure if it's a thing anymore.

We just hired the car for the entire trip, in the end.

Yeah I've looked at this too, and although it's still mentioned on Europa's website I don't think it's a thing anymore as you can't select Europa on the Sixt website. We're looking at hiring a car for the length of our trip in May. Yes it's expensive but it gives more flexibility, and the free hotel parking is another bonus.

A lot of the hire fee seems to be setup/admin cost, the actual daily hire charge is usually reasonable.

Basel Mulhouse Freiburg has varying costs depending which side you hire from.

Baden Baden is a Ryanair special shed in the middle of nowhere, or it felt like that. Probably why it is cheaper. Also car collection is under a minute from the desk.

When we hired a car from Sixt back in 2022, we had to hire it from Baden-Baden airport and drop it back at Baden-Baden airport, as the Europa Park drop off and pick up option on the website was not seemingly available by the time of our trip, despite being advertised by Europa Park.

It worked fine in the end; we hired a Ford Fiesta from Baden-Airpark and just parked it in the hotel car park for the entire time we were there.
