Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!

Headed to EP in a couple weeks, can't wait. It seems like the crowds will be relatively minimal so the queue will not be such a big deal, but in the interests of maximising our rides on Volton I had a few questions.

  1. Are "last hour" tickets still a thing? If so, we just need to request them when we check in?
  2. Does the Voltron queue work "Disney style" where you just have to join 1 minute before park closes in order to ride?
  3. For hotel guests who get in an hour early, Voltron isn't part of the rides available during that hour. What's the best strategy for getting on it first?
1. yes
2. yes
3. See the other reply, I don´t ride Voltron.

Am I right in thinking that the resort pass used to have Phantasialand as one of the free visit days? I’m planning 10 days in Germany for May and it’s not on the list but I swear it used to be on there?! One to note for anyone thinking of purchasing the resort pass to do a few parks.

As above. The Phantasialand top brass have scrapped multi day tickets and annual passes.

I'm sure had it still existed the benefit would have continued.

Just in the early stages of planning Europa for next year but am i correct in my understanding that alongside plenty of accommodation being within walking distance of the park (we'd need a self catering location) there is also a supermarket in the same vicinity? Ideally i'd prefer not to have to hire a car.

Yes. There is an Edeka and Lidl a short walk from the resort hotels. Worth noting though that they will be closed on Sundays.

Next question. I always assumed Europa and Rulantica were on the same site but they actually look quite far apart!

So if you're staying in Rust walking distance from Europa then you're not walking distance from Rulantica, is that right?

I can see a free shuttle bus operates every 30 min between the parks. Are taxis common too? Does seem like a car is borderline essential if you're planning on visiting both but maybe i'm missing something...

You can walk between Europa-Park/village/Rulantica.

It's around a 15/20 minute walk from the town hall to Rulantica.

There is also the free Rust Bus.

It comes up as 50 min walk on Google but that’s from a car park on the West which I presume is the main entrance. Can you enter/exit the park on the East side next to Rust or is that hotel guest access only as mentioned above?

Looks like Google might be getting confused by the road closures near the park entrance, so it's not showing the optimal walking route from there.

You don't have to be a hotel guest to exit the park via the hotels, we have done so many times in the past when staying towards the southern side of Rust, or just to get to one of the hotel bars

Was quite a nice stroll in the summer, joined the Voltron queue just before park close so were walking through the park a good thirty minutes after they'd shut. Was like we were the only people in the park during that walk until we reached the hotel exit/entrance in the Spanish area.

So if i'm staying around say the red circle below, can i enter and exit via either of these red routes i've drawn into the park or does it have to be green route to enter?

And then blue route to Rulantica is also approximately 15 min walk?

If I'm remembering my Europa Park bearings correctly, I don't think either of the red routes are valid entrances.

If you're not staying on site, the route @Poisson posted looks more accurate. If you are staying on site, you can enter through the hotel entrance, up by Atlantica SuperSplash, Wodan, Blue Fire and Alpenexpress, amongst others.

Across the 3 days I was there, I think I only used the hotel entrance, and didn't enter through the main entrance once...

Neither of those are entrances to the park and are roads with houses.

What @Poisson has posted is more accurate or carry on the same road on your route without turning off on either of those roads and turn left at the bridge and carry on that road.

That goes to the main entrance for Europa Park by the same route as Poisson's route from the bridge onwards.

Rust has a regular free bus service that goes around Rust on a regular basis. It is also a nice town to walk around.

If i take this information to be correct, does this mean going in the UK half term of May 26-30 would be an excellent time to visit (excluding the 30th which seems to be a German bank holiday)?

I’d suggest otherwise. Ascension Day in France is the 29th next year and the park typically gets rammed towards the end of that week. Here is the crowd calendar from the equivalent time this year - there’s a reason it’s colloquially known as “Hell Week”!

The week before or after might be the safer option.
