TST Film Review Thread

Train Dreams

Seemingly dumped onto Netflix last week with zero fanfare. However its very much being talked up as an awards contender.

It's that curious time of year in which Netflix is desperately attempting to secure prestige awards nominations, suddenly swapping out 'Is It Cake?' for this and Richard Linklater's 'Nouvelle Vague' or Seymour Hersh's upcoming 'Cover Up' doc on political corruption.

It's a pain as they get such a limited theatrical release. The new Knives Out/Benoit Blanc film is out now but not at my local cinema which I pay for an annual pass to see everything, so if I want to see it I'll need to pay another cinema.

Zootopia/Zootropolis 2

Taking place shortly after the events of the first time this sees Hopps and Wilde back in action.

Again a really fantastic bit of world building, and I really liked the new character Gary The Snake, the first to visit the town in 100 years.

It's very fast paced and filled with jokes but I felt it could've done with slowing down at times to develop character a bit more.

A slight step down from the original but still lots to enjoy. I had an absolute ball with some of the film references they'd scattered across the film.

A second trip to the cinema for me today...

 Christy

The Sydney Sweeney boxing biopic about women's boxing pioneer Christy Martin.

At parts its very by the numbers sports film however the transformation Sweeney puts herself through (in the trailers I didn't realise it was her) as the film unfolds over 20 years, and the abusive relationship with her husband/coach/manager Jim. Makes it stand above similar films.

I was thinking about seeing it but it was withdrawn from many cinemas including my local at short notice (despite the trailer being shown quite regularly for the last month)

Zootopia/Zootropolis 2 is very fun, and the animation is mostly beautiful. I really liked the first one, and I think that the second one matches it. However, I am not the biggest fan of the dialogue.
7.6/10.
