[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

I don’t really have a time to delve into local Bedfordshire social media gossip to get the full picture, but I think some of you are possibly underestimating the ruthlessness of large corporations out for expansion. Their public image is often a carefully cultivated facade.

Also, the deal this person is being offered seems more than fair, the idea that anyone should do anything for the good of the nation - or worse, for the sake of theme park enthusiasm - is silly.

Without being totally clued up on this, I think everything that can be said has been said. So to stop this from going around in circles, please can I ask that we get back to discussing the Universal project rather than whether someone is or is not going to sell their house? Thank you!

Bedford Borough Council will confirm their response to the SDO at a meeting of the Council next week. The report spans to 100 pages and can be found here.

After reading through, I scribbled some notes and key points such as that Wixams will be built as designed with an addition of another plaza and Bedford supporting changes to Manor Road

So, ÂŁ35 for parking.

Get saving up folks.

Wont be an issue for me being based in the NW. We will 100% being staying in a nearby hotel and getting a bus / taxi / free shuttle or even walking if its close enough.

ÂŁ35 would be a joke though given the US ones are only 35 dollars.

Where has this ÂŁ35 figure come from? Seems odd that Universal would release this information on a Saturday night 6 years before the park opens and without planning approval.
The image below is an excerpt from the planning documents:

30eur currently for DLP so factoring in 5 years of inflation, £35 is going to be the right ballpark amount really isn’t it.

Not saying I like it, just that it’s going to be comparable to their biggest rival.

Put away £35 in savings now and you’ll have a touch over £41 in 5 years so you can pay for parking and a bottle of Coke

I’ve been looking at everything at HHN this year in the other parks and honestly i’m sick I can’t go. Blows anything we have here out if the water, even most dark rides we have, honestly.

If HHN is in the UK location, they are going to break my bank.

Halloween Horror Nights are incredibly well themed however I don't think they are as scary as the ones we have in the UK because in the UK the actors can physically touch you whereas in the Halloween Horror Nights they cam also when it comes to immersion a lot can compete Stitches and Altonville Mine Tours are prime examples.

I really hope the Halloween Horror Nights they do a bit more to scare you we do have quite a bit of competition when it comes to scare events

For all people moan about Merlin being money-grabbing, I think parking fees are one area in which they’re actually relatively tame compared to some theme park operators, and I think the arrival of Universal might teach us that.

Over in Orlando, Universal parking was $30 in 2023, and I can’t imagine it’s gone down in price since then! Disney and SeaWorld are also in the circa $30 ballpark as well.

I’m not saying I necessarily agree with it, as £35 is hugely expensive, but given the prices they charge in America, as well as Universal making noises about incentivising public transport use, I expected nothing different!

Anyone who pays Disney and universal parking prices are a bit daft though. They have budget resorts you can stay in with free transportation and also you can use Uber and Lyft if off property. Works out way cheaper than car rental, gas plus parking. You can also have a beer too. 🤣

If we get BTF 88mph launch coaster

I was thinking about this last night. By the time the park opens, the first film will be 46 years old. Many people who fondly remember it will be too old to even ride such an intense coaster. And that's just the opening date, how relevant is the trilogy going to be 5, 10, 15 years after that? Are the park really going to make what would be the signature attraction based on such an old series?

The likes of Jurassic Park and Star Wars are also old franchises but have remained relevant with ongoing releases since their debut. It would be the equivalent of making a signature attraction based on say Gremlins or The Goonies. I suppose you can argue BTTF has remained more relevant than those two with the theatre production albeit on a much smaller scale to JP and SW's respective universes.

I think BTTF has a special place in history and is somewhat cemented in culture.... and i really really want it to happen but i struggle to make sense of it. Hopefully i'm misjudging its enduring popularity.

It’s a weird thing that just keeps hanging around. Royal Caribbean’s latest ship that has literally just started sailing in the last month has a BTTF musical as its entertainment centrepiece for example
