What are you listening to?

It's still awards season so thought I'd share my 2024 albums list.

I tried to listen to at least one 2024 release a week (not necassarily as it came out but at some point through the year) and I managed a fair few more, although there was still a few I never got round to despite wanting to, like that Kamasi Washington record. I didn't listen to anything I expected to dislike so avoided a few big albums from artists I don't like and a couple from artists I do like who I'd heard stunk the gaff out. I made the effort to listen to a big range of music including stuff I don't usually listen to. So generally I enjoyed most things I heard. A really good year. Only two albums disappointed me and only one was really Bad. Only albums are included except a couple EPs and mixtapes I felt were important enough to include, and I slipped in two 2023 projects because I'd not heard of them at the start of last year.

The top row is my 10s, the next line are 9s, two whole rows of 8s, a row and a bit of 7s, then a 6, a 5, miss a few and a 2.

Plenty there that I don't know, will give a few a try.

Best album of last year for me was Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend. I love the whole thing, but the first 4 tracks especially are sublime.

Couple of random albums on a Saturday night

The Wombats - Oh! The Ocean
Sabrina Carpenter - Short n Sweet
Chappel Roan - Rise and Fall of a Midwest princess

Found this in HMV the other day on vinyl. Alot don't like it but I think it's great.

Cracking Son of Beatles, that Jeff Lynne. Looking forward to the final gig in Hyde Park this summer. Hoping Roy and Bev turn up too, but I'm sure hell would freeze over first.

Gone old school today (very old school)
Listening to the best of Electric Light Orchestra
Such amazingly feel good music
My dad played it all the time growing up, I still know most of the lyrics

If you ever see The ELO Experience are playing near you go and see them, they're incredible. Obviously the scale is different, but I've seen the real thing and what these guys do comes real close.
