What are you listening to?

Lots of Springsteen recently especially after seeing him recently and just spending a few times in New Jersey.

Johnny Cash now, love the American albums.

I was always given a hard time for playing Mr Cash...heard a lot then vanished.
Nice to see him top of the pole again.

My current repeat listening, Paul Simon's Heart and Bones, fantastically crafted album.
Apparently it was going to be the Simon and Garfunkel reunion album, but they fell out, again, and Simon wiped out every last bit of Garfunkel's contributions.

I only found this out twenty years later.

Although technically not released until 25th July, I've been listening to a Spotify playlist which duplicates most of what will be Bob Stanley's latest compilation of lost singles "Chip Shop Pop".

"Chip Shop Pop" is a collection of lost singles, from 1970-1975 which never quite made the Top 40, but could have quite easily been heard in your local chip shop at the time.

Two of my favourites are "Tip of My Tongue" by Brotherly Love and "On The Run" by Scorched Earth.

Getting thoroughly depressed watching Glastonbury while not being at Glastonbury.

Great to see Lewis Capali back though.

Got about 4 albums into Bruce Springsteen - Tracks 2 which is 7 albums worth of unreleased albums from the 80s to the 2010s.

Recently my ears have been pricking up whenever Rammstein comes on the radio.

One of their tracks really makes me think of wicker man for some reason. (Imy own funny little way I always imagine that theyre singing about coasters. Something to do with the German accents? Mack products, German theme parks, I don’t know why my head goes in certain directions?)

Anyway I’ve recently been searching out their songs and looking up the lyrics and stuff. Oh my goodness, they’re definitely not singing about roller coasters guys.

Anyway I understand there may have been a little bit of controversy about the band at some point, (didn’t look into it too much) but they have put out some cracking music and amazing videos.

What do others think of them?

I really like their music, especially the album Mutter (2001). I'm still a bit uncomfortable about the 2023 allegations, but all charges were dropped in September of that year, unless something new has been alleged.

My favourite band. Not quite sure which song is Wicker Man-esque though?

Don't know if you mean the early stuff which was basically Satanic Panic nonsense and the Nazism slanders they themselves parodied, or the more recent allegations?

A year or two ago there was some extremely credible accusations of Very Bad things being done to women by members of the band and entourage during and after gigs.

It was alleged that they had some sort of system of identifying young women, giving them vip access, plying them with drinks and potentially spiking them, in order for the band to have sex with them before, after and even during gigs.

Ultimately the police weren't able to find any evidence of crimes taking place, and few if any alleged victims wanted to speak to them. The band sacked the person they claimed was responsible after the story broke and agreed that the re-release of their second album wouldn't be promoted or counted on the charts while all that was ongoing.

Worth saying that in the detailed public allegations from one of the alleged victims, she says that when she refused sex with the band member in question during the interlude in the set, although he was annoyed, he didn't force her to and left.

--

Musically I always liked them, they had the self awareness to know exactly how seriously to take themselves so it never got too silly or too bad taste. Their more recent stuff wasn't as good generally but I rinsed the comeback single Deutschland and its video when it came out, might even be their best work.

And of course their live sets are spectacular, I'm glad I've been able to see them.

This could be said of about ninety percent of all bands over the last seventy years though, couldn't it?

Help me find this song please...?

Gwen McCrae - Loving Peter To Pay Back Paul

I can't find this song to download anywhere (and the cheapest I can find the album is around £13 on Ebay but I only want the one song). Yes, I do listen to some strange/shite music sometimes. My taste is all over the place depending on mood. I have a selection of around 7 songs by her in my collection but this one has eluded me so far. I usually download any harder to get songs from Amazon music but they don't have it. Can't find it on torrent sites either. Is it on iTunes or anything (I don't have Apple accounts)? Willing to pay a few quid for a good quality download (not that bad quality rip off Youtube) if anyone can get it. The album it comes from is called 'Psychic Hotline'.

The 7" single, including shipping, will set you back about £8.00, which isn't too bad. You could always then rip it from the source.
