Yep, our government's simply barbaric with all that democracy and those non-corrupt leaders that we have. Why can't we have a fair government just like Zimbabwe or many other nations of the world? ;)

I think you may want to do a bit deeper research.

Just because there are worse, which there are obviously, don't make the assumption that ours are squeeky. Should we then accept by this logic, that SOME corruption, child molestation, pedophilia, lack of strength dealing with important issues, the further impoverishment of the poor etc is ok? I struggle to believe what is being published at the moment, as it existed in the realms of conspiracy for decades - and now more and more allegations spring forth, and by the site I posted, convictions to back it up!

(You may also wish to take heed, upon whom assisted some of these "dictators" into power in the first place....)

Did you read that link I put up there, or just ignore it in favour of doing precisely what you are accusing others of doing - professing opinions in a fashion to make them look knowledgeable in a subject...

I am not accusing anyone of doing anything, or making judgements upon anyone for having opinions either way - but I find your apathy towards the standard of our political system, as a first world Country, and one of the world's biggest economies, that should ultimately lead by example - to be quite extraordinary.

There are things that I actually like that Cameron is doing, punching EU bureaucrats in the financial nose first and foremost - but, there is much to be put right in our political system - and to compare us, to Countries that have not "caught up" with our "democracy" is foolishness.

Do you compare your TV everyday now, or any product you buy for that matter, to that of a product 50/100 years old, and base this as your fundamental litmus test as to whether you buy into or not?

Of course not, but you do this with our political system.

Haha, I predicted that kind of response. It wasn't directed at you, it was directed at all those "Oh, it'd be easier to list what's right with our government" and "everything's wrong" type posts. I agree that our government isn't a shining beacon but in comparison to most of the world we have a fair, even set of politicians. Sure, there are a few problematic members but overall, I believe our government is a reputable one.

I'm a recently graduated, unemployed, 23 year old who is reliant on the NHS, was born considerably north of Watford and doesn't hold majority shares in a health insurance company.

Does that answer your question?

The government is not that bad, but It's people taking advantage of the government that essentially makes it useless and brings us in the crapper.

I mean it has its problems, BIG problems that I loathe, but compared to other countries governments, we have it better.

The government hates bikers however... Judgemental basts...

Sent from my phone using Tapatalk, please excuse any ridiculous mistakes!

I don't think our 'government' can ever be considered reputable until every unelected official is removed from office.

It undermines democracy in a way that makes some very disreputable countries look more progressive then us.

Hi guys, rather than making a new topic I thought I'd post here.

I was wondering if anyone planned to vote in the EU election on 22nd May, and if so, if they minded sharing their thoughts?

I've always voted a certain way, however I am really uncertain now. The job I am currently in makes immigration matters very transparent and extremely worrying. I know several people I work with are 'talking about' UKIP, but I don't know that it's really the answer! But their argument is that it will 'make a point' to the government about how 'the people' feel about the situation.

For example today I had to go to an NHS hospital for very minor surgery. Of the five people I spoke to, the three nurses were foreign and spoke extremely poor English. Only the surgeons could speak proper English, one was Indian and the other was English (by which I mean white and was from Portsmouth or somewhere like that). Of course they could all have been born in the UK, I accept that. But the level of English from the nurses was appalling, I had no idea what they were saying and they were asking me to sign consent forms...

I really don't know what to do. Not voting is not an option for me, even if you say it is pointless, that's just how I feel.

The people you met on the NHS are all highly skilled medical professionals, and without them the service would suffer even more so than it's doing at the moment otherwise. Perhaps the English was an issue that could be addressed, but if the likes of UKIP would get in, you'd simply be faced in the long run with less nurses altogether, regardless of their spoken language, as the NHS relies heavily on foreign professionals.

Where do you work that makes immigrations issues so transparent, out of interest?

Before going into my political thoughts, I am going to balance the posting by laura. Just to show the different at my local NHS hospital.

I when for some tests, The nurse was non British decent however spoke good English with a bit of an accent. the second nurse and the radiographer where British. and the doctor was a very nice well spoken man of Indian decent, who spoke with a slightly upper class accent.
I could understand the nurse and doctor perfectly, with is more than can be said for the native British chavs in my town.

anyway, my view on Politics.

Parties

Tory, I feel they are widening the gap between the low paid and the well paid.

Labour, When they can stop booming in fighting, get a leader with guts and stop the slide from centre left to centre right and beyond. they may do some good.

Lib Dems a party that was radical centre. Looking for the best answers from both side of the centre. they got into bed with the torys, and if they did not have a spineless Cameron clone leader, or had not joined the torys for a sniff at power could of had a lot of votes.

UKIP. is mixed for me. they are being paid by the EU but want out. Very narrow minded and playing to the worries of the middle class, that does not like foreigners messing around with British laws.
The other worry of mine about the leader, Nigel Farage MEP is the imagery and portrayal of him. If anyone knows they history of will see links between his photos and photos of the 1920 and 1930.

BNP. Lets get the British blood boiling to get the little racist and the "It's not fair" voice in people head going. Lets make non whites look like murdering conniving scum to get into power. but don't forget to hide the white outfits.

My personal view on what we need to do

I think coming out of the common market now would be economic suicide. Yes we need to control immigration of members of the newer EU counties, To this end I think we should look at the Schengen Agreement. an agreement that led to the creation of Europe becoming borderless to the member countries in 1995. We need to look at needed skills of Britain, may be even bring in a point system like Australia has for immigration control. As we do have a shortage of some skills in the UK, like the Health care sector.

We also need to look at the social payment entitlement of nationals from other EU member counties on their arrival in the uk.

My view (Can't vote in the European Election, will be voting in the national one next year):

Conservatives: Cameron has an idea and is set on it. I don't particularly like the idea of going further right so NEIN

Labour: Un-trustworthy leader who betrayed his backers, he has to fight his own party before he tries to fight the opposition. NEIN.

Lib Dems: The escorts of the UK politics scene, get into bed with anyone and have no policies or spine of their own. NEIN.

UKIP: Extreme Tories. NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN.

BNP: Racists, a definite NEIN from me.

Green: The green policies themselves spoil what could have been a good party to vote for. NEIN.

CPGB: Communism doesn't work, so NEIN.

That's all the candidates I can think of in my area. Unless this changes a bit, I'll be struggling for who to vote for. My area has been Labour since it was founded and I doubt that will change.

I've voted by postal vote and some of the candidates in my area are laughable. One of them has the tagline "No immigration, Anti-EU, Pro-jobs", which is exactly the kind of party I want representing me on an international stage. :/

The vast majority of the political class is rotten to its core.

They don't promote facts to balance an argument, they politicise facts and twist them to make themselves look right. They have opinions they want to push forward based on their own beliefs, irrespective of the actual circumstances. What is more, they repeatedly get away with it without reprisals where ironically in the private sector they will often be fined or sacked for such inferences.

Here is a very useful example;

Dudley Tories proving they are exemplary at maths under Michael Gove's tutelage

Took me a minute to work out what you were getting at there, and I'm in the third year of a maths degree! :-[
Just goes to show how easy it is to mislead people with graphs and charts...
