Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

At the end of the day it's a wooden big dipper going through a themed burning element which is err.... broken. Whereas icon hardly has any down time and operations are spot on.

It really winds me up when people say Wickerman is a children's coaster etc. I find it pretty intense and worth riding

I heard someone describe it as a faster runaway mine train.

Yeah like twice the speed.

It's probably not but it's a fair bit quicker and enclosed a lot more, so the speed seems higher. I even made that mistake and convinced the Mrs to ride with us as "it's just like RMT", she screamed the whole way round and I realised after the second drop it was not even in the same category as RMT, let alone style.

People saying Wickerman is a kids coaster clearly haven't ridden it and my wife will never trust my judgement over a coaster again lol

I saw it on a theme park group on Facebook. I had to sit on my hands not to comment. Having ridden RMT and Wicker man they are not the same animal in the slightest. Your right they clearly haven't ridden it or sat at the very back of it. Best place ever :D would love to try the front

Right it's a family coaster end of. Towers needed more to appeal to the family market and thats what they installed. Yes it has an immersive theme but at the end of the day it's not a grown up thrill ride. If you want that head to BPB for icon.

Pffft. Icon is a good fun ride but it's hardly thrilling :p

EDIT - Just to add, I don't particularly think that Wickerman is overly thrilling either, but they're both really good fun and both great family rides.

Wicker Man and Icon are both fun - sometimes that's better than terrifyingly scary.

In an industry where rides are usually pushed as the "scariest" or based around a daft world's first formula it's nice to finally have two new coasters built purely for quality.

Yeah IMO they're both thrilling enough to appeal to everyone. I don't know if I'm just easily pleased but I thoroughly enjoyed both. Nemesis is still number one though :)

If you go back 30yrs, the Wicker man would have been classed as a major white knuckle ride. The Log flume was once deemed to be a major white knuckle ride. Since them, rides have got bigger, faster, taller, more intense.

If you are judging Wicker man on it's themeing, then its right up the top there. As for actually riding it, I've been on better woodies, however Wicker man can still pull a punch when it's fully warmed up, I've also ridden it when it hasn't been warmed up and it can be very meh to ride

Stick to the back, front is boring by comparison and once you've been through the camelback there's so much moisture in your eyes you can barely see where you're going.
Unfortunately, I've only once been successfully granted a particular seat on the ride by request (the back), which was only due to us being the last train of the day. During the day they batch from the front of the train.

Count, quickly.

Actually I heard if you're first through they'll ask if you have a preference, they did to us once but we were a kind of special case because we'd gone through the secret door and nobody was about, but I heard they do offer it, guess it depends on the batcher.

It actually is exactly twice the speed, as RMT is 22mph and WM is 44mph!

I wouldn't personally class WM as a family ride at all! As controversial of an opinion as this probably is, I actually prefer it to Megafobia at Oakwood (the only other wooden coaster I've ridden) and it is my #9 coaster out of 42 ridden. It actually has a few pretty intense/wild moments, albeit not quite as intense as Megafobia, and even though the airtime is far inferior to Megafobia, I find WM nicer to ride than Megafobia because the turns feel smoother and the ride flows better than Megafobia, in my opinion.
