Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two
Happy Friday Folks
Has there been any confirmation as to whether Wicker Man will be on ERT tomorrow morning, with this ‘Opening Ceremony’ occurring?
Is anything open on ERT nowadays? Actually is anything ever open before lunch?

Excellent day out at towers today with rob666 and Dipper_Dave.
So my opinion on Wickerman and first the bad.....
The ride is too short in a park which already has a lot of short coasters.
The theming around the Wickerman effergy isn't great to be honest and pretty pointless when you are on the ride. A few tv screens with some fire on doesn't really give the impression of a burning Wicker man. In fact the most noticeable effect when you are riding is the falling water you get in your face as you pass through the wickerman, caused by the steam machine.
The theme music is just a bland ambient nonsense that quickly gets annoying.
The ride broke down several times today which is going to cause a massive problem if it happens on busy days.
And now for the good...........
The pre show is pretty good and short enough to not be annoying on subsequent rides.
The coaster is extremely fun and maintains a good intensity throughout the ride.
It is a ride that will appeal to a broad spectrum of people which is exactly what the park needed.
It is probably going to be my favourite coaster at towers.
At last Alton towers have got themselves a propper rollercoaster. Well done to them.

I thought the water was part of the themeing. Utterly confused me. Why do I keep getting wet.
Fire and wood.
Me don’t think so.

I guessed at a faulty connector on the vapour pipes.
Lovely day today gents, glad your knees lasted shakey.
Shame the tykes couldn't keep the pace all afternoon.
I liked the ride, didn't rate the music, but loved it overall as a family coaster.
Those ferns and contorted hazel will look really cool in about five years.

A little disappointing this morning. We joined the Wickerman queue at 9:25 fully expecting the queue not to move til 10 because of ERT being at 9:30. It was probably 80 minutes before we got on. It seemed to take ages to get going and loads of empty trains went round, and occasionally a train with 2 staff front row and 2 staff back row. Even more frustrating for those attending for ERT.
We had another ride midway through the day, approx 15 min queue and no issues, then a ride late in the day, about 20 min queue but the ride broke down twice. When you’re stuck in the pre-show room before entering the station and the breakdown apology announcement comes on, its bloody loud, as is the music in the queue line which soon gets annoying. The queue pens themselves go on and on, I hope the teething problems don’t spoil things tomorrow especially as the queues will be longer to begin with.
Anyway, I was delighted to get on a new coaster 3 times in a day, before it’s even officially open so anything was a bonus really. Dispatch seemed very efficient and it’s just a really fun ride with a cool layout, managed to get very back row and near the front too. I think it’s just the right intensity for a woodie. I can see big queues in the coming weeks though especially factoring in Fastrack merging and possible breakdowns. Great ride though and a good addition to the park

Well, this teenager will be providing hilarious updates from the queue tomorrow, mainly of GP saying things such as “the fire ain’t hot enough to set fire to the wood, don’t worry” as I heard someone say last week. It’s going to be a fun 2-3 hours...

Just nobody go on expecting to have any choice over where you sit - you go where you go! A little bit disappointing given the back two or three rows make the ride about 20x more fun than anywhere forward of there but I guess it's more efficient that way
Back seat no hands was easy and fun, no backbreak, and just enough clearance through Alan's whickery bits.
But yes, go wait at the right gate, or a batcher will run down and put you in the right gate.
Plenty of legroom for the tall, but the staff are rather forcefull with the lapbars with the guests with more ample waists.
Especially in the back row.

Wood doesn't actually burn. Go try it now: find a nice bit of wooden furnature in your house and hold a lighter under it.* The lighter will run out of gas... or get too hot to hold... long before the wood is in any danger of catching fire.
What actually burns is the gasses released by the wood when it is heated to a high enough temperature.
*Disclaimer: I'm not saying it won't damage the finish on the wood, mind...

I’m well aware, I’m studying physics and chemistry. However indirect the combustion is, it is still combustion and the wood is involved in one way or another. Anyway, not the point I was trying to make as the quote was from an ill informed member of the GP anywayWood doesn't actually burn. According to tweets Towers are putting out it won't be open on Friday (and extrapolating, also likely Thursday):
Yeah....... so here is me thinking due to the tweet sent out that it isn't gonna open Friday. I even called Alton Towers themselves on Thursday and was told that is not gonna open due to getting ready for launch.
Changed my plans and low and behold check ride times and it shows open. Yeah I'm gutted as got the tweet and also got told by the park it wasn' gonna open so didn' end up going today.
As others have pointed out Altons team are like... the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
Changed plans so now got to wait until after the school holidays to go and also purchase all the 2018 pin badges. Just a bit miffed is all so I'm very sorry if this message comes across a bit ranty.
It's all about being on the first public shuttle of Oblivion in 2013.
