World Cup 2018

Interesting bit of trivia for you... when England were last in the semi-finals, Croatia was not an independent country.
 
I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of the football. In fact, I have never enjoyed the sport! But the World Cup really gripped me this time around. Just the thought that our country might actually succeed in something for once... been way too long since that last happened. I enjoyed the hype while it lasted, it was a nice change, so I'm genuinely sad that things didn't go better tonight.

Anyone would think you don't like football.... oh, wait! :rolleyes:

So close yet so far tonight. But at the end of the day, whatever anyone was saying in the build up to tonight's game, Croatia were the better side. More big game players with more experience of winning trophies.

We did so well to make it this far and the players and management should be proud of themselves. Our squad had a pretty good defence and attack but we were weak and lacked options in the all important midfield.

I think France will win the Final, but I would love to see Croatia go on and do it!

We were dangerous in the first half, caught Croatia napping, it was an amazing free kick, Euro 2020's semis and final are being held at Wembley
 
I love football I just don't care about England and found the "it's coming home" stuff tedious. Can't wait for real football to start again now, glad none of our key players were injured.

See I just don't get this attitude. Why is it seen as 'cool' by so many football fans not to support England? I'm a Leicester supporter first and foremost but why would I not support the national team when they are playing? I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen as much in other countries and I can bet that it didn't happen as much in this country before the formation of the Premier League in 1992. Maybe it is just that fans of the so called 'big clubs' (not that Liverpool have actually won anything of late) have been totally drawn in by the Premier League and the money involved and no longer care about anything else. The same can be said of the clubs themselves.

I'm personally proud that two Leicester City players were able to represent England at the World Cup along with eight of our other players representing various different nations.

There were 2 goals in ET in Croatia's previous game against Russia!

And yes, I 100% agree that English football supporters (almost exclusively supporters of PL clubs) that revel in England's failure are unfathomable. There seems to be this strange "look down the nose" thing with these kinds of people, they somehow think that people supporting England at major tournaments that don't normally watch football are embarrassing or pathetic - when in fact it's just a sense of national pride that comes with all sports, including the Olympics and Wimbledon etc (how many people watch track athletics or smaller PTA tournaments?)

Truly pitiful attitude and really reflects nothing more than a weird masochism of people enjoying a sport that they love.
 
It's disappointing, but with some big players not turning up, a lack of a good left footed left back, and zero leaders to try and get the players going after conceding it was always going to have a time when the flaws within the team would appear...

Just happened to be a lot later in the tournament than accustomed to...
 
Leaving aside the relationship between Liverpool and England, and everything else, I don't understand cheering for players that the rest of the time I don't want to win. I will never cheer Harry Kane and I sure as hell don't want Spurs fans cheering Jordan Henderson.

I don't 'care' about international football because my club, recent years aside, has always been relevant and there's not been a void needed to be filled by another set of players for me to feel part of something. I'm neutral to all international matches (tbh I'd have been happy if England won last night considering what the Croatia players have been getting up to off the pitch, hope the multicultural France side destroys them), but I enjoy when England lose because of proximity and being told we should support them.

Not saying it's wrong to support the side of whatever country you're from but it's not for me. I know England finds it weird we don't care, but we find it weird that England cares. And that's fine. I enjoyed the world cup as a neutral and I'm happy for people who enjoyed it supporting their country.

I'm glad no Liverpool player got injured and that most came home early (Hope Lovren misses his flight and gets stuck out there) so our pre-season isn't too disrupted, looking forward to us maybe being competitive in the league again with our new midfield and hopefully new goalkeeper.

There we go, 'big club' syndrome! Liverpool are no more relevant than any other football club, unless you are talking about the relevance of living in the past (along with Leeds and Forest).

I don't like Harry Kane, he always scores against Leicester, but did I want him to do well for England last night? Of course I did! Your reasons for not getting behind the national team are strange. Would a Lancashire cricket fan not be bothered about England beating India later today, or the Ahses? An English golf fan not want Europe to win the Ryder Cup? A Tigers rugby fan not be supporting England at the Rugby World Cup? Nonsense.
