Grab your litter pickers! The festival is over and all that’s left is to clean up after. The Festival of Thrills will not be returning in 2024
Alton Towers debuted The Festival of Thrills in 2022, as a new early season event, which took place around Easter.
The original version of the event was a music festival, which celebrated the park’s main coasters through the power of music. Stages across the park featured musicians and performers, with each act bring a style of music, suitable for their particular ride:

◉ Galactica – The Galactica Airways AI droids with electro pop from StacÆ 3
◉ Rita – 80’s rock sounds courtesy of Glow
◉ TH13TEEN – Gothic Strings will bring a pop/classical crossover
◉ The Smiler – Dance beats from Hyperhaus
◉ Oblivion – Drum and bass courtesy of DJ Sidor – the Lord of Darkness
◉ Wicker Man – Indie folk-rock band The Rituals and folk duo Mia and the Moon
2023 – The Smiler Takeover
The Festival of Thrills returned in 2023 in a much more scaled back format.
The 2023 version featured The Smiler Takeover and largely jettisoned the ‘music festival’ vibe across the park. Instead, the concept was now that the Ministry of Joy had taken over the park’s main rollercoasters.
In reality, this rather odd concept manifested as a few shows in the X-Sector with Smiler themed props scattered elsewhere in the park.
