This whole thing really is an exercise in what modern British press has become... No longer to the papers and news channels report what they think we should or need to know about the world, they report what they think we want to know.

Look at historical crashes on rides in Britain. Was there this much commotion when the Mine Train crashed? When the Big One had a station crash? When someone DIED at Lightwater?

No. There wasn't.

This is all entirely because of the time we now live in and the desperation to gain viewers, sell papers and get hits on websites. Towers have been unfortunate that something else huge hasn't hit the news in the last few days as otherwise this story would all but have dried up.

As it stands the papers are printing anything they can to keep this in the public eye - purely because they know it makes for great click bait online.

Ugh.

One thing that doesn't help things is also the fact Alton Towers is the biggest park in the UK and the fact this was their last big ride which had been swarmed with problems.

That being said, I do think the press naturally exaggerate things which sadly is something to be expected these days.

Oh Dear Lord, now I have friends discussing another 'crash' on a rollercoaster at Alton Towers, no doubt linked to the Octonauts evacuation story.

It does appear that the silly season has started earlier than usual this year.

Meanwhile, in the 8 or so days since the incident, 38 people have died in road accidents in the UK, with another 476 seriously injured.

The government should do something about it, its a national scandal.
People keep having accidents, there needs to be an inquiry.
Maybe issue bubble wrap to everyone, compulsory that you wrap up before leaving the house

And I'm sure Kay Burley is interrogating everyone and anyone who is responsible for these. Oh wait, she doesn't give a damn and neither do the media!

That's because people dying in road accidents are all part of 'the plan'.

Looks like the press are all over the ride downtime today, for example, another example of tripe from the Mirror.

*sigh*

:)

As someone earlier stated "facepalm" all theme parks the world over have ride downtime.

Let's get creative with some mirror worthy headlines.

Fire in blackpool water ride as riders fear for their safety.

Terror and demand for enquiry as coaster falls BACKWARDS after launch.

etc.

The fact that Air reopened half an hour after the metal clip incident tells me it was nothing to do with the ride. How convenient that the only photo of it is grainy. In daylight, modern camera phones wouldn't take such a bad photo, I suspect that the Mirror have blurred the image on purpose to continue their hate campaign. What did Merlin do to them? Refuse to go into a 'free ticket' deal like they do with the Sun? I'm smelling a rat.

If this weather persists, i will be loading my family into the golf and making a beeline for a few days at splash landings the week after next, i hope Oblivion will be running but won't really care if it isn't.
