Did they watch the same interview we did? I'm guessing the Murdoch pulling power is great, because i have known ofcom to investigate on the back of way less than 2000 complaints.

Disappointed is not the word. Nick Varney was belittled in that interview and made to feel like he was the one that was personally responsible, and NOT given ample opportunity to respond, she let him start to answer a question, would interrupt him, put words in his mouth and try and make him admit that a statement that she had just fabricated, live on air, was the facts, without knowing a thing herself about how ride machinery operates, or the safety features and protocols involved.

If that is what this world is coming to, and is seen as an acceptable interview style, then i for one will be cancelling my sky and just getting freeview, i want no part of it.

This has made me genuinely angry, because as Burley kept saying, people were injured to the point of life changing. Yet all she wanted to do was promote HERSELF in this interview and act like a thug just to further her notoriety, not a thought was spared for the actual victims, she was simply trying to create a headline from statements she was pulling from her rear end, and trying to get nick varney to take as fact, and take personal responsibility.

This was a clear breach in interviewing standards and she has got away with it again.

Rant over

@XXBENNXX Completely agree, the only way to protest it to vote with feet and take business elsewhere. Which I have done ever since Bully's appalling behaviour in the April Jones case.

Amazing how some powerful corporations have so much power to silence others.

Not surprising about The Smiler, I don't think it will reopen with the current name and theme. However, at least X Sector and Sonic are now back open.

Even if they rename it, re theme it, which I don't think they will do. It will always be know for THAT coaster.
They could even paint it pink and call it "The Fluffy Bunny Adventure Ride" it wont change what it is.
May as well save the money and keep it as is.

What standards? It was an awkward watch, I grant but I really don't think it's as big a deal as is being made out.

With regards to a personal attack on Nick, I don't think that suggestion was there that what had happened was his fault. At the end of the day he is the CEO of a company that trades on the FTSE100 - that's a big deal! What had happened that day was out of the ordinary and extremely serious (lets not forget that people's lives have been irreparably changed by the events of that day).

Kay Burley's reputation is pretty well known - she's very often like that.

Does anyone know what the extra safety precautions are? causing x sector and sonic closures. Have the ppl on the park today noticed anything different?

Just wondering if anyone could do a TL;DR sort of thing for the latest as to what has happened and what we know. Been essentially offline with The Smiler for over a week, so I have no idea to the latest! Slightly selfish request but perhaps we could all benefit? :)

The latest TowersStreet news articles provide a good summary of what took place, try taking a read of them! Hope that helps you.

:)

And this has had at least 850 LESS complaints ........
You're missing the point, Ofcom investigated in that case to determine whether the thousands of viewers who had paid to vote had been misled into doing so and if ITV had profited from their 'deceit'.

I don't want to live in a world where the press can't tear apart the great and the good, whether that be a CEO, politician or a disgraced sports star. However, at which the tearing apart becomes unacceptable is completely subjective.

To be fair though, she wasn't just trying to get every little inappropriate-for-the-time detail out of him, but also completely twisting his words and depicting AT to be awful and dangerous.

^ but at that stage there was very little information about what had happened. I understand people's frustrations with it, absolutely - but I think that type of journalism has its place. Whether that be Frost vs. Nixon, or whatever, we wouldn't want a passive press.

It's been a long time since I saw them, but I remember the interviews with Geoffrey Thompson in the days and weeks after the first Big One collision, they didn't give him smooth ride. No jokes... please :)

Well the runaway mine train is still going strong despite the accident it had. One of the most popular rides at AT.
