Dreamland Margate: General Discussion

It doesn't take much to be considered a "great event" at Pleasurewood Hills.

Really not fussed about his background there, Dreamland is a totally different ball game as far as I'm concerned.

This guy is an ex-marketer from Pleasurewood Hills (as many of you seem to know). I realise people need to hype things and generate interest, but I personally expect very little - I'm just pessimistic like that.

Bold, but I reckon that Ben will be able to pull something off, he managed to create a great event at Pleasurewood Hills of all places.
Great event is pushing it a little. It was distictly average in 2014. They will need a lot more money than Pleasurewood Hills had for their event.

:)

So there was yet another fire at Dreamland this morning!

Fire in disused amusement arcade at Dreamland, Margate

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at Dreamland today.

The fire broke out in a disused amusement arcade at the Margate site, with crews called to the Eton Road entrance at 10.50am.

The affected building was being renovated as part of the Dreamland development.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews were faced with a fire in the roof space of a former amusement arcade.

"Firefighters used axes and cutters to access the fire in the two-storey building.

"They then used a hose reel jet and a main jet for cover and a 13.5 metre ladder to extinguish the blaze.

"Crews then dampened down. The cause of the fire is accidental."

They left the scene just before 11.30am.

Dreamland spokesman Fiona Russell said: "There has been a small fire on Dreamland’s Buffet Building roof during maintenance stemming from hot works igniting old timbers in the structure.

"The fire was put out before the emergency services arrived, health and safety was adhered to at all times and nobody was hurt.

"We would like to thank the prompt response and professionalism of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service."

Dreamland's Buffet Building after the fire

Work is currently being carried out to restore the site to its former glory. The heritage attraction is due to open next month.

It is the latest bout of bad luck for the project. In December, part of the iconic scenic railway was brought down by strong winds.

The rollercoaster was in the process of being re-built after falling into disrepair following the park's closure in 2005 - which was worsened by a devastating fire in 2008.

From what I've read it doesn't sound like much damage has been done thankfully, not sure if I should be slightly worried that these fires aren't surprising me anymore though :p

Also found this image on Twitter today which I thought gave a good view of the site so far :) With just over a month to go until opening, I hope that we'll see much of the empty space being filled soon.

:)

I was thinking more of 2013's event. I remember last years being a bit of a disappointment

Another fire? It's almost as if someone is deliberately trying to prevent the park from opening. :/

It just seems like this project suffers constant bad luck. I really want it to be a success when it does open but, to be honest, I do question whether orbit the general public will be at all interested in heritage rides particularly since most UK punters now seem to want either IPs or big steel looping coasters. Or maybe I'm just listening to Nick Varney too much.

Sad news. Unfortunately the Scenic Railway won't be opening alongside the rest of the park due to the restoration on the trains not yet being completed. However, the park are giving free tickets to guests to come back once the ride is eventually ready to reopen which is a nice gesture.

Good move if they've called this in for Friday - it's definitely a good idea to open with some sort of semi-major coaster. I assume they'll either send this off when the Scenic opens or they'll keep it for a year or two until they can put up a few more rides before letting it go. :)

Is anyone really surprised? The whole park seems cursed. :(

Huh? Since the big fire, there hasn't been any more minor mishaps or small delays than you'd expect from the construction of a new theme park from scratch.

There has been a fire very recently if that can be classed as a mishap, however very minor and obviously hasn't slowed down the progress.

As much as we hate them, I guess it's not a bad coaster for them to have.

I just pray that they'll get hold of Twist 'n' Shout.
