2017: CBeebies Land Hotel

If that's as wide as the ground work is going to go it's not the hotel extension. It would need to be twice as wide as that and a smidgen closer to the lake.

I'm not holding my breath that the hotel extension is happening now.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it in person today. Very narrow.

I agree that those foundations don't look exactly like they are for the hotel expansion. However there is clearly something going on there. We had all the tree clearing down there over the closed season, they've got the planning permission for the hotel expansion, the area has been fenced off, some work is going on and we know for a fact that the Spa expansion is due to link in to the hotel expansion (the spa will contain the new hotel reception). I suspect this work is linked in some way.

:)

Ah ok that makes sense. I suppose it was too much to expect themt to build the lodges, expand the Spa and 'extend' ATH all at the same time! :p I'd imagine the Spa and ATH expansions will happen sometime in the next few years though, maybe once the lodges are complete.

:)

Maybe we'll see Spa and extension happen in 2016/2017.

It will be far easier for marketing if they do that and spread out resort investments. The Spa/extension will be a longer construction too as it requires more lengthy work compared to the lodges which are prefabricated buildings.

Not too sure when it expires but they have already had to extend the time they have to carry out the development once.

:)

Bit of a revival of this topic, but today documents were uploaded to the planning portal detailing a rather large ATH extension (which effectively seems like a third hotel), placed in front of the Woodland Walk, next to the Spa and opposite the current ATH fountain. Certainly seems like quite a major project, especially as it adds both a new 204-seater buffet restaurant and a large entertainments area.

The plans also include the addition of a separate entrance, access road, 88 space car park, reception and shop.

Documents can be found here. :)

All looks very interesting. I have a feeling that there may be a few more documents that have yet to be uploaded to the page, though. Good to see that a new restaurant and entertainments area have been included in the plans.

Seems odd to be building an extension at a time when guest numbers are so low they're almost outnumbered by the staff.

Surely with the vast drop in visitor numbers, it would be deemed pointless to invest in further bedroom availability if they are going to struggle to fill it? Especially with the opening of the Enchanted Village this year as well, I personally think that money should be re-invested into the park before they add yet more bedrooms to remain empty during the closed season...

*shakes head in disbelief*

Another stupid and ill thought out plan. They messed up the chance to build a linking 3rd hotel by putting that half arsed Enchanted Village mess on the perfect site for it. It looks very small to be its own hotel, it's tucked out of the way, and it's shoe horned into a space that will conflict with their best existing hotel. Therefore it can only be an extension - which means having 2 entrances and 2 car parks. Stupid.

This is the 3rd time they've looked at extending ATH and quite frankly the worst plans of them all. Why even bother? Just leave ATH alone with it's beautiful gardens, and build a new hotel somewhere else. The Spa however does need extending because it's too small.

Best plan would be to build a new hotel on the site adjacent to the Enchanted Village, link to ATH with a bridge going over the road. That way not only would EV be tucked away out the back of the new hotel, eliminating the fact it's plonked in an open field with an ugly fence around it, but they could finally make a grand entrance to make it a bit more magical.

I think its great there they are extending the hotel, At least there not adding anymore glorified shipping containers to the accommodation.

You may care to notice that the EV also has phase 2 and 3 to come, in order to completely take over the fields. This will eliminate and remove the 'ugly fence' and, by that time, a lot of the trees will have grown too. At the moment, EV is too bare - but I hope that once trees grow and they deliver phase 2 and 3 - it will be much better.

Personally, I like the look of this development. It will add a much needed 3rd bar to proceedings, and a large new restaurant. The original ATH extension was all executive accommodation and wouldn't have supported most guests needs. This proposed development, of 74 rooms, is larger than Santa Isabel at Europa-Park - just for comparison.

I think it's fantastic to see them enhancing the resort in this way.

Indeed the noise assessment shows that the Enchanted Village will take up that whole area eventually (see our news article for the plan).

If the extension is in the same style as the existing hotel its going to have little impact on the garden, it is only going to obscure some trees and adds a new sunken garden plus more bar and food options. As Dan said it is bigger than Santa Isabel at EP and they also market a hotel extension as an extra hotel (Alcazar is really an extension of another hotel and doesn't have it'sown reception).

All plus really.
