Towers is Tired and Run Down

Hmm, when exactly did Towers go down the pan? Was it a gradual heating of the water us lobsters are sitting in? Or was there one clear shark jumping moment? It must have been somewhere in the early-mid 2000's, surely? It seems so long ago now. There must be a whole generation of younger enthusiasts who will never understand what we mean when we talk about "The Magic".

Although it birthed Air, 2002 was the year the park began to feel clinical to me. 2004 was the nadir. Despite a coaster being shoehorned into a corner of the park, it really did feel like the place was about to close down. The park is in a better, fuller state now than then, but on the other hand, nothing looked as poor as Dark Forest or Nemesis do now.

To be fair, the first few Merlin years were good and the park improved a lot. 2010 was fantastic. Thirteen may not have been all it was hoped to be, but the park looked better than it had for a while, the atmosphere was great and there were loads of little touches that really made the difference, not to mention Scarefest and the fireworks both being great, probably the last great Scarefest, although I heard last year's was better than the few before it . Been downhill since, though.

Wish I hadnt started this thread, makes me feel sad :(
I still dont see this run down and sad park everyone is talking about.
Granted Towers has a few quirks and little bit wrong here and there, but thats just Towers, I love quirks its something else to love.
So what if the flume needs a little lick of paint and Nemesis station is a bit old and tatty, its just how she is and love her just the same :D
The magic is still there, I just think you lot are not looking hard enough! :p

Apart from dark Forrest, MOST of the park is ok. Yes, nemesis's station needs new paint, and the flume is... the flume! Air lacks all theming, ripsaw, blade and enterprise are ancient and always broken down, x-sector is quiet and depressing.

Tell me when you walk through the gates and down onto Towers Street do you not get a little tingle inside and a smile on you face or or is it a sense of foreboding and dread in the pit of your stomach
Even after all these years I still get excited even on the drive there. :)

ahhh X Sector, well thats its own little problem all by its self which I just ignore and dont think about la la la
and just because things are old and break down once in a while doesn't mean its a bad thing :)

No not really. Though maybe that is partly down to the fact I frequently visit the park.

I remember having to drive half the way there stuck behind 18 vintage tractors :p. They were traveling at less than 15 mph. We were following them for 45 minutes along a road that should have taken 15. The drive was (questionably) more exiting.

Love that part of Staffordshire anyway. Oakamoor, Farley and Alton are beautiful little villages. Nice walks around there too.
Plus I like road trips anyway :p

oh yes @AliceHL91. The area around Oakmoor and Farley reminds me so much of the beauty of the Shropshire welsh border where I live. The drive over to AT is not exciting for me, as I am the driver. However some of the roads around AT are a joy to drive when driving across to Oakmoor.

I don't mind driving I quite enjoy it. Can't take in so much of the scenery though.
Nice hurtling along those B roads with my music on lol :D

I do like driving, in my job i can do anywhere between 100 and 1000 miles a week. usually taking college students on trips.

Taking about minibus. AT could do with tidying up the service bus stop. maybe adding some items to make the wait more comfortable.

I would think the flume is going in the next 2 years as its in there long term plan. I think with the thrill rides such as nemesis and air they will be replaced any time after 28 years old. I do think some areas could do with more such as dark forest and x sector.

The only rides that have run without problem today are all cbeebiesland, nemesis, ripsaw, blade, rapids and flume.
