Scarefest 2015

Would it be only us who buy it though is the only problem I can see. I'm not sure the gp would buy themepark music.
That might be the case, which is why I said trial.

Every theme park I've been to abroad have sold their audio on CDs, so it must be making some profit. Obviously the UK are too scared to try.

I can't see why they can't just upload it to youtube if they own the music and don't want to sell it. Not something that would cost them.

Because people will download it from YouTube, meaning that Towers lose out on money they can be making by selling legitimate copies on park. :)

Yes, but I said that if they absolutely won't sell it for whatever reason, why not let people download it. It can't be to hard to sell it, but they haven't and most of the audio is already on Youtube.

An oldy but a goody,

Personally I'd just accept if Towers aren't currently offering it, while its a shame, just accept that. I would (and I suspect TS too) never condone illegally obtaining material which does not belong to you.

So - just to clear some things up:
  • I had to maintain a professional distance for months and months whilst this was all in the works and it was interesting to see all the excitement going on.
  • As a fan of the industry myself I am now lucky to be blending my passion with my job - so I am happy to answer any questions and share the experience with everyone.
  • I have had so many emails and messages from people outright asking for the music tracks. Whilst this is very gratifying, I will NOT be sharing the music with anyone on here as I do not own it. Merlin paid for the music so they now own it. Think of it like a designer designs clothing item and then sells the item to M&S and then a stranger asks the designer for a free pair of shoes with a retail price of £400. I have to be a bit stern here - even though music is not a tangible item, it is a piece of work that, in my case, took 6 months to create. If I find any of it online, I will ask for it to be removed.
  • Please do enjoy snippets like the end of the SubSpecies Trailer that uses the queue audio, along with the Molly Crowe video is full of sounds from the queue!
I love being here to be able to talk about what we all love. I am listening to the Towers Street Track as I write this and I will look into ways of making people hear a bit more of it - but do give us time.

Thanks, guys!

Do I have a Walt Disney World Parks CD? Yes!
Do I have 5+ Europa Park park CDs? Yes!
Do I have a digital download of the on-ride audio for Blue Fire? Yes!
Do I have anything from any UK park at all (legitimately)? No!

Sucks. And something that needs to be addressed!

But do we all have a heck of a lot of music from UK parks obtained in unofficial ways? Yes! Think of the money they could have made if there had been CDs where it could have been bought before being leaked online (thanks Whistle)!

I don't get why Towers haven't released a Scarefest CD, it would have been dead easy to do. Knock up a quick cover and back for the CD in photoshop, get some CDs, burn tracks on to said CDs, sell for a lot more than cost to produce. Simples! Ok there probably is more to it but not much. They could have done it in limited quantities and I'm sure they would have sold. I'd certainly have bought one.

Theme park CDs clearly do work, they are sold at parks all over the world. If Toverland, a relatively small park, can sell a CD of nice music very well then surely Towers can do the same.

:)

Rather than a CD, I think what may work better, and sell better would be an event DVD. Memories of Scarefest for people to take home and show others , clips of the rides in the dark, the park at night, some footage from inside the scare mazes, and of course some of the music. Given YouDay fell flat on its face, a token DVD - half hour long say, may interest some of us, and also the GP..... maybe....

Hi, just wanted to share my review of this years impressive Scarefest.

Last year, Scarefest was a small disappointment, but this year the team have really upped their game and bettered Thorpe Park by a long way.
The whole general atmosphere amongst the place was brilliant and the audio through Towers Street was brilliant, topped off with wonderful theming. The Alton Ancestors were a laugh and I have to admit, one hid in the Duel exit and jumped out on my group giving me an early shock before the mazes. Night riding was fun and Thirteen was breathtaking, and I also managed to get a walk on Nemesis at 20:30. Brilliant.
Now on to the good bits, the mazes:
Terror Of The Towers
TOT was superb last year and after hearing that it was going to get refreshed this year I was more than happy. They queue was relatively long but I loved the photo section where your ankles get grabbed, gave our group a good fright! The maze itself was very good, and the theming was top notch. Right from the off the place seemed like it was crawling with actors and I never really had a break from them, the scares were constant and you never knew where they were coming from. The bridge overlooking the next scene was very good and I liked the duck town tunnel section and I think it fit better than it did last year. The ending was ok but in my run through it didn't seem that there was as much actors, but nevertheless the strobes were intense and very disorientating. All in all a very solid maze, superb acting and one that towers should always keep. 8/10

The Haunting Of Molly Crowe
This is one of those mazes where you either love it or hate it, for me though, I really enjoyed it. The queue line experience was exceptional in the dark and the audio was terrifying! I loved the sort of pre show bit and the actor in there was very good and made a great jump scare when we entered as he hid behind the wooden fence in front. The maze itself was intense and the scares itself were created from unique ways, all of our group admitted that they were terrified of letting go of the rope and at the start we lost it and everybody panicked, loved it. The place seemed full with actors and the leg grabbing really got me, I didn't have much interaction from legs up though, but when I did it was brilliant, including an actor stroke my face and whisper that I should 'burn in hell'. The actors interacted well, and one of the girls in our group were screaming at there boyfriend for going to fast, shouting 'Elliot!', so the actor quickly grabbed on to his name and tormented him through out. The finale was breathtaking, absolutely brilliant, when Molly appeared all of our group (including me) jumped out of their skin, and the priest also joined in creating scares, couldn't fault that ending, the maze itself was very intense and delivered scares in unique ways, 7/10 for me.

Sub Species: The End Games
After months of build up and weeks of reading the reviews, this was the one I was most looking forward to, and it duly delivered. The queue line was small and the audio could have been turned up a notch, but apart from that there was lots of tension. We entered a briefing section which really started to build it up, and then the control room which again really started to get your blood pumping. The next scene was brilliantly executed, once we had all lined up against the wall, the actor inside there had already spotted two young couple who were quickly split up, but for one of the couples, the girl refused to go through the door on her own and eventually pushed her way back into the room with us, but instead her boyfriend went into door 2 on his own. The rest of us went through door 3. The maze itself was brilliant, some great theming and was very extreme. Lots of different possible routes and actors really tormenting you. About 5 minutes in I was split up, as we made our way to the first square kind of tunnel bit, the actor saw that I was at the back and that I was grabbing on the person in front of me, and called me a 'scaredy cat', and grabbed me and sent me around a small section were there was three or four actors who kept sending me round in circles laughing to themselves. After spending the guide rope room on my own I found our group in which I think was a bed, kind of ward section? Anyways, the ending was intense and I heard the chainsaw from behind me and as I ran to the exit one of the aliens grabbed my shirt but I managed to get lose and legged it out. All in all, it was a very enjoyable maze, very very intense and extreme. Quality attraction from Alton Towers! 10/10

In conclusion, it's great to see towers back to its best after a very difficult year, hopefully next Scarefest gets better, and they add maybe a fourth maze? And just The Dark Apocalypse scare zone but make it bigger perhaps? But apart from that, well done towers!

I was there briefly last night, and realised they'd missed a trick with the Dark Apocalypse audio. The announcement states that "access to residential areas of Happy Valley are now... Forbidden". Quite a nice touch in isolation, but the name Thunder Valley would have been a great nod to the area's past.

There was talk at the time about why they did not call it thunder looper valley in the back story, and explained the remove of TL as the nemesis alien destroying as it removed the happiness from the valley.

Where's this come from? This is the first time I've ever heard the name Happy Valley being thrown about, other than as the name of about a dozen Chinese parks.

It was in one bit of advertising that had back story. It was by nemesis in june 94 when i went to the park and was gone in june 95 (my next visit)

I went on park today for a few hours, and I decided to do Sub Species, and I have to say I was slightly dissapointed, especially after the hype that was built up around it.

I loved the mystery inside of not knowing where you're going, and being split up in complete darkness with no knowledge of who is around you, I thought that was great and I was petrified all the way through...Until we got to the 'Alien' finale. The themeing leading up to the final room is great, with the alien eggs, but the room itself with the laughable ghost train style alien on a pully system - What a joke....I wish I got the other finale, that seemed a lot scarier.

The "Darth Vader" breathing is still being played at full volume constantly outside Sub Species/TOTT. It does sound quite amusing, given the similarity ;)
