Scarefest 2015

The "Darth Vader" breathing is still being played at full volume constantly outside Sub Species/TOTT. It does sound quite amusing, given the similarity ;)
It was on Wednesday as well. Darth Vader was the first thing a member of our group said when we joined the TotT queue, and they aren't an enthusiast.

Where's this come from? This is the first time I've ever heard the name Happy Valley being thrown about, other than as the name of about a dozen Chinese parks.

This! I've also never heard of Happy Valley at Alton Towers before, my first thought when I heard it was "haha Chinese theme parks"! Fair enough if it is in one piece of marketing from 1994 but more guests would have got a Thunder Valley reference.
I went on park today for a few hours, and I decided to do Sub Species, and I have to say I was slightly dissapointed, especially after the hype that was built up around it.

I loved the mystery inside of not knowing where you're going, and being split up in complete darkness with no knowledge of who is around you, I thought that was great and I was petrified all the way through...Until we got to the 'Alien' finale. The themeing leading up to the final room is great, with the alien eggs, but the room itself with the laughable ghost train style alien on a pully system - What a joke....I wish I got the other finale, that seemed a lot scarier.

Alien is the weaker ending, hopefully this is something that they work on for next year. If you get chance do it again as the human ending is very good!

:)

I've held off doing TotT until yesterday, decided as I was on park with a group of non-geeks we would try it out.
Alton Towers please, please, please get rid of this abomination of a boring maze.
Nothing new, nothing great. The entire run through spent with my Sis laughing at how pants it all was.

Careful what you wish for. You clearly haven't done many scare mazes if you think ToTT is "pants".

TOT is my favorite scare maze. I've attended a few different scare events this year,

Prime Evil event at the dinosaur park in Norkolk. Yes the thememing this year was good, but not many actors in the mazes and no big scares and the acting were well below that of what you get at Alton. The actors in the Alton Towers scare zones were 100 x better as well as scarier.

Colchester zoo fright nights were great considering the actors were general zoo staff, a lot more scares than the Prime Evil event and the acting was also better. Scare mazes were a lot smaller compared to Alton Towers and Prime evil. Again the scare event is nothing compared to what you get at Alton.

Is it just me or the only thing that I hate about the Alton Towers scare mazes, especially in the TOT is this business of putting your hands on the person shoulders in front. Especially if the person in front is a lot taller than you and you, the people in font are moving faster than the people behind you, can be very uncomfortable as well as blocking your view.

Compared to how it use to be, it's now just a poor, hollow shell of its former self.
All the props need to be piled on the Towers lawn and burnt !
Maybe I have done too many scare mazes, but when you are on a run thorough and all you can think is meh! It's time to change.

Edit. A point about Nox scare zone yesterday, as our group joined the 13 queue line I was asked where the scare zone was. When I pointed out we had just walked through it. Oh!
I counted a total of 3 actors... Not great.

It was my first scarefest, but I didn't think too much of TotT. It was good, but I wasn't actually scared at any point. The actors were very good, but good actors isn't really enough to make it a good maze. I often saw the actors jump out at the people at the front and then try to jump out at us, but that doesn't work, I knew it would happen. The strobe finale was the best bit of the maze. Lots of actors.

Please, next year Change the maze (or the tag line and story at the very least) allow touching, make the story more obvious, don't go round in a line, just change the maze or get rid of it.

The Towers did look quite good yesterday tho

Had a great day on park yesterday. Great atmosphere, especially in the dark! Maze wise - Sub Species was really special, the touching and multiple routes really added something. Found myself trapped in a corner by one sewer dweller for a couple of minutes whilst he touched my face and threatened to pull my eyes out. Also, the tunnel was great. Adrenaline really kicked in, never crawled so fast in my life.
Molly Crowe was a pleasant surprise as well, thought the finale was really brilliant.
Perfect weather as well - damp, foggy and dark, what more could you want for an evening spin on Nemesis?!

@blueschild
and beautiful once the fog rolled in

I can't explain how great Oblivion and Rita were in this weather. From the top of blivvy I couldn't see the smiler, let alone the towers. Also, people had started to leave fairly early on so by the end of the night, the park was super eerie. Best towers trip yet I think.

Alton needs a mix of mazes, TOT may not be your cup of scare. However it fits the needs for a visitor group.
This would only work though if they lowered the age limit. I know what you mean though. I was laughing through all the mazes, but my friend (also 15) was crying through Molly Crowe and TotT, and wouldn't go in sub species.

I know a 17 yr old that would need a nappy for all mazes. It not the age, more the level they get scared at.

No, but strictly enforcing all people who want to do TotT to be 15 is too much. I know some 13 year olds that would happily do it, but can't.

Limit I think (though not sure how strictly enforced) the mazes all say on the enterence "YOU MUST BE 15 ENTER"

Yesterday, staff were just asking and if they said they were under 15, the guest would be turned away. However, they don't ask for ID or anything.

Is this at the point of entry to the attraction or at the sales and info kiosks where you buy the tickets?
