OK here it is:

I think the forum should commit to doing this on the new Galacticrap ride.

:D

If they're going to make a joke of the air theme, we may as well do it properly!

Blimey, you forget just how unfunny Benny Hill was. In other news, we may now have won the award for "most off-topic ramblings". :p

No because as a result there's a proposition on the table to do the new ride Benny Hill style.

EDIT:
I suggest we all chase Varney and the marketing department around as they wear the visors and we have the Duel lasers.

Ok so.... back on to the topic!

This is what I worried about and mentioned some time back, that Merlin will not put much effort into the themeing etc because the rider will be "blindfolded" with the VR headset.

I hope that the ride cars will be getting a makeover, that the plastics are sprayed newer darker blue to fit the theme of the ride, and that the seats are sorted out in terms of the obvious wear on them.

I'm really not sure what to make of the cabling around the harness and the stupid bag in the front, it just looks so amateur doesn't it!

Right then, hands up then who's given up on this project now then?:p

If Merlin want a world first here, that it is the world's first retheme of a ride that makes everyone give up hope on it's expectations without carrying a single passenger. Now that's something to think about!

Why don't they just actually build something really good for a nice change at Alton Towers. You know, something that sounds really good at the idea's stage, looks very promising during construction (which runs on time) and then actually provides a great experience as expected when opened. Instead of this constant crap that they keep churning out year after year and blowing it out of all proportion as THE WORLDS BEST NEW NUMBER ONE EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN EVER HONESTLY. Look, it looks absolutely pathetic, like some 14 year old kid built the technology and BAGS and stuff in a technology project at school. And, have no doubt, you will have BUFFOONS who can't handle the simple concept of attaching this crap to their body in a timely and sensible fashion and this WILL take ages to dispatch. Who are the people getting paid to introduce these schemes? They are keeping their cushy jobs with coming up with these gimmicky wastes of EVERYONE'S time whilst hard working people on the ground are being made redundant from important roles. DO SOMETHING GOOD.

To be honest i'm holding out that they are going to do more than what is shown in the picture. This is probably just the initial testing - they cant leave it like that, it wont last the year.

I hope so anyway......

Edit : Just noticed something on the plans:

On the actual ride platforms, there appears to be a curtain before you actually get into the ride area itself. So that would suggest it would be dark inside the actual "Air gates" area. Also, the queue line diagram shows the photos taken in the queue line as opposed to on the ride.

I might be a bit slow in noticing these things and probably they have been noted before - but, it does sound like this ride is going to be a nightmare for throughput!!!

It's impossible to please everybody.

Take swarm for instance, I think the ride is ace, it's big, it's long, it's fun. The theming is great. But even that seamed to go down like a sack of shit with most people on here.

I really don't get it, it's such a good ride. I so wish we had that instead of air at AT.

The VR idea has grown on me since I first heard about it. I was hoping that Merlin would do a really good job with this but am getting more and more sceptical. If that's the final fixing arrangement for the headsets as others have said it doesn't look good.

On the actual ride platforms, there appears to be a curtain before you actually get into the ride area itself. So that would suggest it would be dark inside the actual "Air gates" area.

I'm wondering if the retheme isn't going to be as extensive as I first thought within the station building. Just noticed the planning application appeared to show some internal partitions in the station building but these don't appear to be on the latest artist impressions released at the Galatica launch

I know the old saying is don't judge a book by its cover and it's the ride experience that will make or break it but surely if you are marketing it as a brand new ride with new name etc it should at least look new/impressive when it opens not just some new kit bolted on to an old ride. Hopefully the photos were just a look we have got it working and with a few months to opening they can sort the final details and spruce up the carriages.

Towers may be of the opinion that it dont matter what it looks like on the outside, a complete shambles, once you have a headset on you cant see it ! :)

Good point. Maybe the logic is people who are going to go on will do even if it looks terrible and once the headset is on it really doesn't matter.

I'm expecting (too hopefully perhaps?) Something similar to the projection room in the smiler queue, but themed to space. I Might be a minority here, but asides from the violent strobes, I really like the projection room (if it's aligned properly). I feel it could work for galactica if done properly.

The old engineer rule is keep things simple. While all this VR may look pretty and all, it will no doubt be a nightmare as others have mentioned above. If Merlin are going to keep going for nothing but gimmicks then they are seriously going to find themselves in a whole world of trouble as any gimmick they can think about will all be dried up and won't install any new ride as it doesn't happen to have something to bring the punters in.

Would be funny and ironic in a way if their drive for having gimmicks on their rides will lead to their much deserved comeuppance, oh I can't wait to see that! Maybe this might be the start of things...
