RIP Ripsaw

Hopefully we are looking at long term gain for short term utter crud. I agree it's too big an area to just have 2 rides and a pirate ship that was until recently heading the same way that ripsaw has gone. Hopefully the next sw hasn't been delayed too much by the financial implications of the smiler incident and I 2018 we will have a coherent area again. Shame about sub terra, I liked it and if they could get it going again for another season or 2 if would help the area soak up customers. Such a shame but hopefully for the greater good.

Has it gone the way of Ripsaw? Obviously RS was utterly knackered, loved the ride but stopped wanting to go it after it got stuck upside down! :D

It's hard to actually know which topic to talk about these things in being serious because they're all related.

This, even just aesthetically, is a huge huge loss to FV IMO. I will really miss the old girl!

Wait, did that actually happen? I thought it was impossible to get stuck upside down?

Forgot about sub terra. Only went on it twice which was about 3 days before it closed, and I would be sad to see it SBNO. Might not have been the best dark ride, but it really helped queues in FV and was generally underrated.

First I've heard about it getting stuck upside down. Has someone been reading too many tabloids?

was generally underrated.
Personally, I'd say it was rated pretty accurately. IE: not very highly.

Am I imagining that?! It was a fair while back, perhaps I am mistaken.

At this rate they are going to have to brush off the cobwebs of thunderlooper and beast ;) Forbidden Valley Seems to now be becoming Nemmy Valley if it wasn't already.

I think Hopi Hari might have an issue with Towers popping over asking for their shuttle coaster back.
Show him a picture of the current Forbidden Valley and Hari won't be able to send thunderlooper back quick enough, he may even offer to pop over with his tool box to lend a hand.

Wasn't it the one at Chessington that got stuck? Not sure it was upside-down though
Think they both got stuck at some point (both around 2/3 year ago I think). Ramses got stuck (not upside down) for 4 hours, while ripsaw got stuck (again, not upside down) for 40 minutes, but was exadurated by the media since it was not long after RR got stuck.

Please correct me if I'm wrong though :)

I just don't know where the heck I got that idea from it was years ago long before I joined here.

Just going to facepalm myself for that one.

I STOPPED RIDING THE DAMN THING BECAUSE OF THAT.

IDIOT. :oops::confused::banghead::tinfoil::rage:

EDIT:
Only I could post an epic win response, followed by an epic fail one, within like minutes. :tearsofjoy:

Oh well, forum's never dull with me around eh?

There was definitely a video on YouTube of Ripsaw stuck upside-down, I think it's been taken down though.

I have searched and can't find it!

I hope someone else eventually remembers this because this has driven me to distraction since yesterday, bothered me WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much :tearsofjoy:

Half the idea of a top spin is that the gondola sits far enough below its pivot points on the arms for its weight to keep it roughly horizontal, or at least until you start spinning the arms quickly or locking the pivots. That helps when messing about backwards and forwards teasing riders with fountains, and also gives that thrilling rapid variation of rotation speed when flipping (You know what I mean. Gondola unlocks: "tsssss...WHOOMPH...WHOOMPH" etc. Riders scream.) I can't imagine one locking while even partially inverted. The gondola can of course be locked, but if anything goes wrong I'd expect the ride to try and get back to its loading position for easy evacuation before locking, or to at least use the gondola's weight to get it flat for riders to be evacuated.

Even if the arms were at the bottom, the gondola locked upside down and the locks broke and got stuck, they could always just rotate the arms up to the top to keep people the right way up.
