RIP Ripsaw

Poor Terry :(

Am I the only person who loves this ride? lol

Definitely not. I always loved Sub Standard especially since they 'sorted' it. Yes it's a real shame the experience isn't longer but when everything is working perfectly it is a good ride, nicely themed, nice story behind it etc. Actually, Towers don't deserve it. It belongs in a better park.

I only wish they'd made more of it using automation and show control instead of shoving a half arsed scare maze at the end. The reliance on too many actors and staff mean it's very costly to run for how little love it gets. Hex does it right, automated rooms etc, minimal staff to run.

I know I was the one who slated it a few posts back but admittedly like it as well. From when you step into the first lift until you get out of the exit lift it is very immersive.

However the exterior is unforgivably cheap and shoddy, the pre-left videos (crab) are cringe and the ending is/was plain amateur. Not to mention being shouted at.

Nevertheless its closure will contribute to a large hole in Forbidden Valley next season.

I was gutted when I last went on Sub Terra and the exit lift broke. Suddenly a deep underground chamber turned into just a dirty room once the fire exit opened. No lift chase and no scare maze :(

How did you get out if the lift broke? 300 feet underground with a enraged monster on the loose? Dam dude you're lucky to be alive, I hope the mirror don't read this

Most did not survive as the chamber self destructed before the lift doors opened. A private H&S investigation found that Alton Towers were at fault for not carrying out essential maintenance on their Egg Containment Unit. I saw it overload and it popped its main fuse with a bang. The lights went out and chaos followed. I managed to escape by climbing an escape shaft And out the fire exit.

Since the Smiler Incident had already tarnished the reputation of the park, they made sure the media were kept busy with that for the rest of the season and covered up the Sub terra incident as "Closed for ride repairs".

Its a shame its going ( if it is) I recently visited another park in Kent, Dreamland ( unless you have a nostalgia for the place in my opinion its not worth going to ) which had a Huss Topspin ( mobile version ) complete with a ride op in a cabin with a huge grin on his face operating the thing in full manual mode, people could even talk to the ride op when the ride was being re-loaded and ask questions.
The ride on this topspin, operated by someone who was ( more than ) enjoying it in manual was significantly better than anything Alton towers Topspin, Ripsaw ever gave in auto mode. And there lies, in my opinion one of the issues with Ripsaw, it was just so-so, lacking a manic ride op having fun with the thing in manual.

Hmm, i've heard different, but lets see what happens! :)

Fellow TSTer's Russell and Sazzle today saw the Ripsaw gondola on the back of a lorry parked up in a lay-by on the A12 near Colchester.

I'm afraid that there is no way back for it!

:)

Where would that be going? Scrapyard that can handle a ripsaw...

Back to huss for a refurb? :p

I don't wish to sound bad but it was fairly dead my only problem is they will not replace it. Towers needs flats simple as that. If they do close all the rides we heard about the next few years are going to be poor to say the least

It's dead. It's not being replaced. This is indicative of the wider attitude at present towards an increasingly attraction sparse area further aggravated by Ripsaws removal, that leaves a main area incoherent with 3 rides.

THREE, one of which is a knackered old Pirate Ship.

Ripsaw was key to that area, and it did oddly fit in, and people will notice, the apologist attitude towards that is what I referenced in my post. The idea is to either like, not like, disagree, or agree, with a persons post on a topic and thus discuss it.

Hopefully we are looking at long term gain for short term utter crud. I agree it's too big an area to just have 2 rides and a pirate ship that was until recently heading the same way that ripsaw has gone. Hopefully the next sw hasn't been delayed too much by the financial implications of the smiler incident and I 2018 we will have a coherent area again. Shame about sub terra, I liked it and if they could get it going again for another season or 2 if would help the area soak up customers. Such a shame but hopefully for the greater good.
