Operationally, Alton Towers are looking like a joke this year. It is two weeks until opening day key information regarding the park has yet to be confirmed. The only explanation for this can surely be massive disagreements behind the scenes at some level of management. One lot of people want one thing and another lot are demanding another. It's a sad and sorry state of affairs.

I feel sorry for the social media team who have to answer all of the questions in which they have no input into the decision making process for. I do hope they are relaying their frustrations to management.
Errm... where's the new park map? Hasn't it usually been released or leaked by now? Or have I completely missed something? Questions questions.....

Good question, I totally forgot about the map! It's usually released around the start of March I think. At a guess I'd say we will get something next week. I can't think the design will change, it will just be modified to represent the changes this season. Although saying that, if they still don't know what food outlets or rides are actually opening they are a bit screwed for when it comes to printing a map!

:)

This could also be seen as a slight positive, if I'm being optimistic. If one group of management didn't like the old shorter hours, maybe we could see extensions?
I would rather see 10-5 weekdays, 10-6 weekends and closed Tuesday & Wednesday than 11-5 or 10-4 every day and no closed days.
But maybe I'm being too optimistic and they are reducing hours :)

It just seems really disorganised to me. I know I haven't been around on enthusiast forums for as long as other people on here have been, but I can't recall a time when opening times, the ride line-up and F&B offerings were still to be confirmed just over two weeks before the park was due to open!

Pretty much the most farcical I can recall.

My suspicion would echo that of others, an internal battle taking place. Possibly even one between Towers/Merlin.

I know if that was me at Towers (and I'm quite sure many of us here feel the same), I'd be doing exactly that.

They're going to be the ones taking the heat whilst the bean counters (AND MERLIN HAVE MANY, MANY BEANS!) lock themselves away in an office somewhere.

There's no excuse for the budgetary restraints, Merlin are doing very well thank you indeed, and to squeeze the pips out of a park that's in a spot of bother and actually NEEDS a faultless year, well it's just utter insanity - even from a business perspective!

You REBUILD a reputation of an attraction so important to your portfolio, not squeeze it!

I just can't fathom it out - utterly ludicrous.

I will give Towers the benefit of any doubt here I think, and sit on the side of assuming they're battling for common sense and reason - as well as fairness to their damn customers!!

Can you imagine Merlin saying "hey, stop not spending money!"

No, me either...

Towers tweeted a reply to @MattyH
"The Theme Park will open at 10am (or 9am for Early Ride Time). Nemesis and The Smiler will both be available, Matt."
Is Nemmy and Smiler now on ERT ?!?!?!??
Oh joy of joys :D

Those two points are unrelated - neither will be open for ERT.

ERT this year is Oblivion, Enterprise and CBeebees land, with Spinball opening at 9.30

I have noticed towers have started to tweet people telling them opening hours.

Opening day the park is open 10-5 but it seems the week days the park will only be open till 4.30, including Galactica opening and good Friday!

Fine for me, I'll just hit up the moonlight spa session ;)

But seriously them times are not great... especially for a opening day of a new ride or someone visiting for there annual trip...

But to be fair to lack of rides means you will be done by 12 and be tootling around for the rest of the day ;)

I did tweet them today

Me @altontowers
has the ride line up and food places been released yet

AT @Delta79 We're awaiting confirmation for ride lineup, Dave. Which food outlets are you enquiring about?

ME @altontowers courtyard bbq. Always enjoy a burger and a pirate show. Hoping to stop off there during opening day visit

AT @Delta79 We're afraid Courtyard BBQ will not be available for the Theme Park opening, Dave. Apologies.

ME @altontowers will it and the pirate show be working later in the season. If I only get one burger & show this year. I will be happy

AT @Delta79 We will keep you informed as the season progresses, Dave. We hope a delicious burger from elsewhere will suffice for now!

ME @altontowers please tell me the pirate show is there this season.

AT @Delta79 As said, we're still awaiting confirmation of our rides and attractions lineup for 2016 right now, Dave. We'll let you know!

ME @altontowers ok. See you(well the park) on 19th. Its looking good on @AltonTLC photos.

AT @Delta79 We can't wait!

I find it hard to believe they don't know a ride line up - closed season maintainanance will now be coming to an end, rides which are going to open will be testing and staff will be training, there's no doubt they know what's opening but for some reason are not releasing the info.

Haha... Is this a joke? 12 days until the park opens and they still don't have a clue. At least they are confirming some things now that have been painfully obvious since January.

It's crazy... utterly ridiculous how much they are unsure of still... expecting when they release the information for the Galactica Annual Pass preview today it will just say:

"You can now buy your tickets today for the Galactica preview! Dates and Ride Line up to be confirmed" ;)

I feel like i'm loosing all desire to visit this year. First year in god knows how long I havent booked a hotel stay, and first year in god knows how long that i'm not going to bother going up for opening day.

Things better improve as the season goes on this year as its sounding pretty dire at the moment. If Towers think they can lure us back with pretty shades of green paint then they can pull the other one.

If they don't know what the ride, show and food outlets line up will be until opening day, then how on earth are do they know what to print in this season park Map?
