Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I'd also considered doing passholder day, but it sold out before I'd arranged anything. I don't feel I'm really missing much with a minimum of 3 major rides closed.

Slammer reopened before the end of last year, if anything Samurai was less reliable by the latter half of the season.

I went to Thorpe four times last season (March, June, September and October) and samurai was closed on three of those visits! In fact on one visit it was in pieces all over the area around it!

Glad to hear this, never ridden it, not being a fan of heights, but it's such an iconic ride. Quirky, be sad to see this one go.

I feel like I get lucky with Slammer. I do go to Thorpe a lot compared to most other people here, but I think only twice or three times I've been Slammer has been closed the whole day :p

So its annual pass day today, and Thorpe park mania have posted a few bits including the park map on their Twitter page.

They now have a Nitrogine located next to Derren Brown and roast and relish has been replaced by "Pulled Meat" which sounds similar to me.

Also it seems area names are back on the map such as Amity Cove, etc.

Calpyso Quay and Canada Creek are also gone. Although really Thorpe's areas are such a mess thanks to the park's size it doesn't really matter.

The map is terrible. All of Thorpe's maps since 2010 have been awful.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Not sure they thought that one through...

Tempted to pay that one a visit!

That'll get the teen lads in!!

Get ya meat pulled.

I'm in.

"The jungle"? "Old town"? "Port and base camp"? "Pulled meat"? What is this? Have they lost all imagination?

That map is laughable. Don't think a single one of the rides is proportional, and they've succeeded in making all of the coasters layouts near identical...
at least they get the right track for the coasters though.*pokes towers*

ROAST AND RELISH IS GONE‽ ‽ ‽ ‽ ‽ ‽ ? !!!

That's it, burn the whole park down.

This, this and this again! Roast and Relish was actually one of the few places in a Merlin park where you could get a good quality light lunch on what was really nice bread. Towards the end of last season it was permanently a choice of one meat (can't remember what) or pulled pork. And now it is called Pulled Meat Company.

Argh!!!! Also, who do so many Merlin food outlets have to end in either "Company" or "Co."?

:)

From what I've seen of DBGT - Once again Merlin proving they have absolutely sod all knowledge of creating a themed environment. Whilst I appreciate that the attention will have been spent on the inside of this ride, and I do have high hopes for the ride experience, there's absolutely no sense of theater or immersion outside of the building. a warehouse with a themed section plonked in the middle of a vast paved area just doesn't cut it.

They did it with Swarm and they've done it again with DBGT, thinking that as long as they theme things well the atmosphere will follow. Swarm island famously rings hollow and I fear for worse with DBGT, especially as it's directly in the heart of the park.

If Merlin really want to play with the big boys then they really need to take a leaf out of their book. There's more to theme parks than theming items and paving.

Agreed, but they don't want to play with the big boys. They have their way of doing things, and it suits them just fine.

So Calypso Quay is now The Jungle and Canada Creek is now Old Town. I guess with Loggers Leap closed the Canada Creek name didn't make much sense. Amity and Lost City names staying though.

next up.

Pizza & Pasta to be rebranded again to "Cooked Dough and some Cheese Co.".

Stealth to be renamed "up and down coaster".

No problems with the creativity here folks, move along now.

I suppose the issue with Canada Creek was that it didn't feel any different from a western themed area. I guess Canada was a difficult country to have a themed area in a park. I wonder if they'll change the name of Rocky Express because of this?

Yeah,

"Train thing go roundy"
Brilliant! :D

In all seriousness though, I had a quick think, and I'll think Loggers Leap will get a retheme with an IP. If that does happen, then I just they pick the right one. But knowing Thorpe...

If loggers opens again next season as a new rethemed ride, I can see the area getting a new name or theme, that side of the park has been run down for years, especially since the railway left, making it a bit of a dead end.
