2017/18: SW8 Speculation

I wouldn't mind a water ride for SW8. I'd love something on the scale Chiapas or Valhalla, although really I don't see Towers spending that much on a water ride.
 
A new decent water ride will need to be built at some point. Battle Galleons is awful and it's rare you get wet on the rapids. I personally can't see a water ride going on on the Flume site again.

The area around the Flume's lake is within the GDO area, but the bits of the Flume that go into the woods aren't. If SW8 goes back that far, then it'd require planning permission. Further info on planning restrictions at Towers can be found here in Rob's YourStreet article.
 
Out of interest - is the lake a 'natural' or protected feature? If it is within the General Development Order, and they decided to fill the lake in - could they?

I'm just thinking of how they reclaimed land at Thorpe Park (I believe).

I'm pretty sure the lake isn't natural... as it's drained every closed season!
 
The lake for the flume also feeds water to the rapids, I guess they could reduce its size, really they should look to make a tank to contain chlorinated water for the rapids but due to the cost unlikely.

Poseidon's Fury is the walk through at IoA which tbh, I wouldn't mind being installed!

You're probably referring to Journey to Atlantis, which I don't recall being painful at all. I have a strong feeling it'll be something along those lines from Mack however.
 
Didn't the LTDP say a dark ride is due soon? Just a thought although I still think it's more likely a tracked ride

The fact that they've published this picture today gives me hope that it will all go to plan, but knowing Towers, it may well not do that. :p
 
Tbh its going to be a coaster because the gp want a coaster. They will keep them happy. We may say we want a dark ride or an experience but the gp don't. This is not the fault of experience rides but the fact the gp haven't experienced any good dark rides. This means they have no faith in them ....

Sorry, but this is rubbish. Why do the general public not want a water ride? The Flume was still a popular attraction before it closed and the rapids have always been (and they'll get even more popular now thanks to the former's closure). Arguably, Water rides are second to coasters in a theme park. And besides, theme parks aren't all about coasters, this is Alton Towers, not Magic Mountain.

Talking to my friends about what they want alton to have next all they say is coaster. None said experience or water ride ....
 
Ugh, Alton have plenty of variety in coaster! I don't think they can innovate anymore than what they've already gone and done!
 
Wow... honestly wasn't expecting to see that. Water coaster would be great (world's first inverting water coaster with VR and live actors anyone?) But I want a woodie. Just something towers haven't done yet that would really add more variety to their coasters.
 
This will be some form of B&M perhaps a pirate themed winged coaster with some sort of water interaction. Remember a few years back the posters in Mutiny bay
