Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

Assume a lot of those listed attractions are assumptions rather than confirmed, though more rides is more rides at end of day...

Midway Mania and Ant Man, in addition to Buzz Lightyear in the main park.

Neither of these are confirmed - as I said in my other post, there IS space for TSMM if they wanted a quicker fix, but on closer inspection, theyve gone for Swirling Saucers as a TSL expansion. Ant Man I would say is more likely given it is already designed for Tokyo (?) Disneyland, and it would be a good option to get the Marvel area open ASAP

An Ant Man attraction is currently in the works at Hong Kong Disneyland (replacing the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast ride). As for Paris' own version of TSMM, I think it's a possibility, simply because it's been on the cards for such a long time, yet just never actually going ahead. :)

This looks like it takes inspiration from the best elements of the Disney Parks worldwide. It is exactly the scale of expansion the Studios needs, and makes a park that is distinct from the first one. A good choice of 3 crowd pulling IPs, that will bring in new customers, and so new income.

Next announcement.... Disney village expansion, retheming the place, Buffalo Bills replacement etc.

You do realise that neither of those attractions are in this announcement, right? So as it stands your complaint is based on pure speculation ;)

The sums of money Disney spend on attractions is eye watering.

However, I am grateful to see a major expansion of this wretched park.

:)
As far as I'm aware the budgets work similar to the Merlin setup with studios where they change vast sums for internal work, so a huge chunk of that budget never actually leaves Disney. The reason that it works for Disney rather than Merlin is that they increase the attraction "budgets" to compensate for the inflated costs whereas Merlin try to cut the attraction budgets whilst increasing internal costs.

They also usually bundle up the attraction's opening year advertising/marketing budget into the cost. Being that this is opening over at least 4 maybe 5 seasons and DLP's marketing covers the whole of Europe in print and TV advertising you can bet thats a money suck out the budget.

This does have the effect that a budget announcement from Disney is effectively a made-up number that sounds impressive though.

Also worth noting that the DCA re-work budget was half of this and whilst there is more work to be done here there is virtually no R&D work to account for with it mostly being cherry picked clones from Disney parks around the world. I doubt its really costing double so.... is the money vanishing back into Disney's Magical Accounting Sheet or is there more to be announced??

Also not to mention DCA had a lot of ride removal and physical landscaping in their budget (that Carsland Rock Work cant have been cheap). At least its just flat unused land behind Studios aside from the lake there wont be a huge amount of landscaping needed, more thematic edges to the berm of the park.

Where is anyone getting the idea of Toy Story Midway Mania from? The only expansion I can see suggested on the concept for Paris' Toy Story land is the Little Green Men attraction and a giant Woody from the new entrance on the new main pathway.
I dont even think theres enough space to build a Midway Mania - even the 2 track version needs a chunk of room that just isn't there in Studios.

A couple of things Ive spotted from the concept art:

- Ratatouille now looks really out on a limb on its own
- Whats the path behind Ratatouille heading to the right? Its currently part of Tram Tour and heads towards the Chaparrel Theatre in the main park - an exit route? a shared parade/event route? Seems odd its on the art with nothing around it.
- Star Wars Land looks a lot smaller than the current Galaxys Edge construction sites
- Speaking of... whats the left side of Star Wars Land... its blurred. Star Wars hotel? There were plans for a hotel on that spot before and if DHS Star Wars Hotel is the cash cow expected, I cant see why not (it would also explain budget needs).

Ive never been so excited about Disney Paris! A few months ago I had wondered whether a CarsLand dropped onto of the Stunt Show and area would save the park, but this is massive, so much better than anyone could have expected.

A few rumours are suggesting the Tram Tour will live on (God knows why though) and the plain looking building behind the alien looking Toy Story expansion is actually the new station with the road you mentioned following round to the existing Canyon. Looking closely there does appear to be a paved area to the right of said building that could easily be for the trams to load.

It does from this artwork but at the same time a quick look on good maps shows they have more than enough space in that location so could go either way.

Good god why?!!!?!! - I have never wanted to get off a ride as much as that. Current tour highlights include: Props from a TV show you've never seen. Dying topiaries we've nowhere else to store. Staff having a fag on the way to lunch.

There have been rumours that Disneyland Paris have been considering getting their own version of Toy Story Midway Mania for a number of year, even though it's not technically been announced, I still think it's a possibility, even if they just leave a space for it, to add it later.

I guess it also make sense to assume that the Ant Man ride will be imported from HK Disney, otherwise, they'll have to come up with new concepts for entire new attractions, whereas the design of the Ant Man ride is already done, they just have to build it.

I really can't see the Studio Tram Tour surviving though.. only way for that to work would be to have it go right round the park, or have a crossing right in the middle of the park, neither of which seem worth the bother when it's such a boring ride anyway. :)

Or halving the length and adding new scenes with stops to a shorter tour? I would fully expect the London street to be removed at least as the new Marvel dark ride would be on the site.

Looks fantastic! And I'm glad that Art of Animation is staying, a little favourite of mine haha.

Unfortunately the flip-side is that the main park will still not be getting new investments for quite some time.

In my opinion Disneyland Park only needs one major new ride soon. I'm hopeful that this might still come before 2025 and it would be ideal for the park's 30th anniversary in 2022.

Of course they may prefer to wait until work on Studios is complete, and I can see why it might seem like that is the most likely option.

Speaking of Studios park, I wonder if we will get a new name?

:)

I think we are more likely to see a copy of the new avengers ride that’s opening in Hong Kong (set to open by 2023) than we are to see the ant man ride. As previous rumours pointed to large E—Ticket avengers ride replacing the stung show. The concept art also looks to show an avengers quin-jet next to the new building by the current rock n roller coaster.

@evilcod, I was going by the map posted earlier, rather than the official concept art.

Don't get me wrong, anything would be an improvement to that sorry excuse for a park!

A few rumours are suggesting the Tram Tour will live on...

I was there last week, and Catastrophy Canyon is still fun; BUT the scenery is rotting away. The truck is covered in rust, mold and limescale and the bits that catch fire are now pure carbon.
It needs a bit of TLC just to see it through until the expansion bulldozes it into history.

The tram tour isn't relevant to the medium term vision the park now has (it won't be a Studios); but the other closures are going to need that to hang around a few more years just for capacity, at least until the Marvel stuff is delivered.

The Stunt Show was unexpectedly good fun; but swapping that for something like Fantasmic is well overdue in the grand scheme.

I would also like to see the flying carpets moved ouside the Agrabah cafe in Adventureland; where it has always belonged. It would work so much better over where it was intended to go originally.

Not entirely correct regarding funding from Disney Parks. This would be budgeted as capex (capital expenditure) that is put aside for Paris specifically relating to this, so unlikely that the money would return in the way that general inter group funding is structured. Marketing *may* be included in this, although for accounting purposes this is again unlikely
