Thinking on about this peppa pig thing how much would buying the IP cost? Would it cost much different just to buy poultons park and add it to their portfolio and obtain the IP with the purchase? As a result they could slightly increase cost of MAP due to greater offering and get rid of some competition

Dear god, no! Paulton's is a lovely little park, and the only serious threat to Chessington's market. We need to preserve it!

Anyone remember that toilet paper we older ones used to get in school where it was like tracing paper? They could resort to using that again to save costs lol!
I believe it was called Izal, and is still available.

Paultons won't sell, they know they can continue to grow and hopefully will do so without selling up to a rival...
Indeed, I suspect they have very little interest in selling. Plus, if you bought the park, you don't necessarily 'obtain the IP' - although you would like continue to have the rights to use it at Paultons. Blooloop had a great piece by Richard Mancey of Paultons this week.

Merlin is a banned word in the office at Paulton's,I mentioned them once and got told (jokingly) that if I wanted to stay, not to mention them again (it was all very jokey but it was clear there was no love lost between the two).

Merlin probably have more chance of buying DLP than they do Paultons.

If only we could ban Merlin from everywhere else in the world.

A light hearted conversation between me and a manager to waste time while we waited for someone else to go and sort something out for us because something you don't need to know the precise details about wasn't working properly.

Any other context you'd like to know? Perhaps how many ice creams I consumed that day? What colour socks I was wearing? LOL

Yeah you can't buy the rights to an external IP by buying an attraction it's already licensed to. But by acquiring Paulton's Park you would acquire all their own IPs (their own themes and characters, basically, although Paulton's don't really have any that could be considered an intellectual property).

Paulton's is a nice regional park, it's been great to see it really grow and keep its character since I used to go there years back.

Technically you could gain the rights if the park in question had aquired the rights for multiple parks. For example Six Flags have a multipark deal for DC IPs. If Merlin purchased Six Flags they’d have to re-sign the agreement with DC as part of the process (assuming they wanted to keep the brand). If the only part of the contract that changes is the company name then in theory there’d be nothing stopping them from adding DC attractions to Merlin’s pre-existing Parks.

For Paulton’s this might not have been the case as there was only one Peppa Pig World. However if it is a situation like Marvel and Universal buying out Paulton’s might be the only way to open up the UK market, something I’m sure Merlin would want to do.
