Towers Loving Care

All the SFX are unfinished so lots missing yeah.

The problem with the UV is the lighting rather than the paintwork. It's LED UV, which should have been obvious wasnt suitable for the UV illusions and scenery in the ride. You can now see walls everywhere like you could with the previous non-UV lighting. With traditional UV, anything painted black you never see.

I hope they are able to find a solution :)

The new audio on Duel is a good change, however changes to the rest of the ride were not that noticeable. Some of the theming has clearly been done up and looks better but there is still work to do.

I have little love for Duel anyway, so I'm not too bothered how it goes either way. It feels like the direction they want to take the ride in does not fit with the idea of it being an interactive shooting dark ride. Would I care if they ripped it out and started again? Not really!

:)

It's only so unentertaining because it's been so detrimentally fiddled with for 20 years, then had years in limbo as the patchwork attraction it's become.

I loved it when I was young because it was so big and unlike any other dark ride in the country, but its cheesy and lame moments turned out to all be stemmed from the Duel redo or neglect.

Also I can guarantee you will never get such a big & detailed family haunted house built ever again. It's a big part of UK theme parks heritage, could be lots of fun for families if the right decisions were made and money spent.

As it is, it's just filler and not a memorable family attraction. Though, if the guns were removed, what's left of the scenes are too far gone to hit the mark on their own, unless given some serious investment.

In an ideal world, I think the dated transit system could be removed and a Ninjago type system put in to ramp up the energy in the faster scenes. Add the slick, theatrical veneer they were going for in 1992. Then reinvent the scenes in that same surprising/ creative vein as the original Haunted House, but for today.

That's a pipe dream though. Nobody in the UK today could ever deliver a dark ride like Haunted House and make it special, and a UK park today would never spend so much on a dark ride without it being an external IP.

A slight tangent, but Cloud Cuckoo Land - wtf?!

As a combination of TLC and ride mothballing, there is now nothing there but a carousel, the Froghopper, and the driving school. Even the 4D cinema has gone!

To me, this shows a real contempt for younger guests :(. It used to be that bigger members of our family could go to Dark Forest while the smaller members could spend a good hour and a half in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Now, it's literally pointless. It would have made more sense to have moved the little they do have there elsewhere, to at least provide some options for families in other parts of the park.

I felt Duel is still a work in progress. Some parts look better, but I really dont like the use of the UV paint on some of the characters, looks a bit travelling fairground style of ghost train. Not sure about the music either, I think I preferred the music which used to change according to which part of the ride you are in.

Is it less contempt or them putting all their eggs in cbeebies land? I have never been in there since I don't have young children and don't ever feel the need. Personally I think at the age you grow out of Cbeebies you'll at least like WM or Spinball. Could even brave Air/Galactica.

@Yalnix - the slight defect in your plan is that a kid reaching a time where they're done with Cbeebies and they 'like' WM or Spinball is that it's not necessarily the same time that they are tall enough to ride them. Air/Galactica is a 1.4m height.

Their sole focus for the younger audience is CBeebies Land, which to be fair, expanded only last year. As soon as that opened, CCL has gradually faded away. It will almost certainly be rethemed into a new area soon, possibly more like Mutiny Bay/Katanga Canyon, leaving CBeebies as the sole area for the youngest guests.

Personally, I'd love them to extend the area to incorporate the old Coaster Corner section, and build a new flume, though I've not got my fingers crossed.

I understand what you're saying :). But what I was trying to get at is that it's currently difficult to experience the whole park as a family, because there are big areas where essentially there is nothing to do unless you're 1.4m+.

Fine if you're happy to split up and spend time in different parts of the park - but that's not exactly a family day out! For instance, my kids are 5, 8 and 10, and the only way we can make the day feel fair for everyone to to spend a lot of it in two groups. The only rides that meet everyone's simultaneous approval are the Mine Train and, very recently, Duel. Hex and Enterprise are too scary for my 5 year old.

At some "smaller" parks like Lightwater Valley, big rides and little rides are put side by side so everyone has something to do.

Talking of childrens rides, i'm thinking of taking up a friend and her 5 year old son (nearly 6), who hasnt been on a coaster before and is now past Cbeebies age, so i'm not sure what he will like, so i'm thinking:

Octonauts
Vroomster Ride
Possibly RMT depending how we get on with those two!
Rapids if they are open
Sealife
Driving school
Froghopper
Heave Ho
Carosel

.... but I cant think of much else. Anyone else taken kids of this age got any more ideas, just seems a small amount to get through an entire day in the park....

Ps. Hex and Duel would be too scary for him.

He can also go on the Enterprise and the Blade if he can stomach it ;) but otherwise, that's basically your lot.

You'd also have much fun in Justin's Pie-O-Matic Factory - not it to be missed - seriously!! We spent ages there yesterday on the fully automatic ball blasters, taking out Cbeebies parents left, right and centre

Probably an unhelpful comment but Chessington is 1000x better for that age group...

Can I add a couple of rides to that list? Jus based on my experience when we've taken my little brother to the park when he was 5 to 6 years old.

Marauders Mayhem — a 5 / 6 year old should definitely be able to ride this.
Battle Galleons — same here, it's not exactly a fast ride, and if you don't mind getting a little wet.
Blade — if you don't want to go too high, try and sit near the centre of the ship, and gradually sit further back with each ride!
Spinball Whizzer — this might be one to wait a while. My brother rode it at 6 years but I really don't know how many that age would want to ride it to be honest.
TH13TEEN — pretty much the same as above, except the drop could really scare some children. My brother has been on this twice and now won't go on it at all..

Already shared this on FB etc but thought I may as well share this here as well just to show that Alton don't do everything badly. The Grand Conservatory domes look fantastic this season. Probably the best they will look for many years now, so enjoy them ;)

They should move the Resort Box Office to the conservatories in the gardens. At least then more people would get the chance to see them!

They could open a little refreshments cart there while there at it too. Probably couldn't justify the staff costs in the current climate though unfortunately. Even one of those old Wall's ice cream carts would do with ice creams and chilled drinks. Probably doesn't justify the outlay on staff though. Also, maybe they wouldn't want to attract too many undesirables to one of their latest investments....
