Towers Loving Care

I’m yet to ride the new fuel myself, I’ll probably wait until the timings have been sorted. I like the new music though.

When a accident autocorrect makes you wonder what a ride called fuel would be like. :D

High speed haunted house, maybe :D

I’m calling it now, the new haunted house themed petrol station; fuel. After wicker man, Merlin have taken it upon themselves to excessively theme everything, even petrol stations.

I can see it now. More punters queuing for the 'FUEL' petrol station pin badges at the counter than those actually queuing to pay for petrol. And a one off fastrack shot of £20 lets the petrol buyers skip past the badge buyers to the front of the queue

Just been on Duel today. I think it is way better than it was before. Whilst I'm not a fan of the exterior soundtrack, I do think the new soundtrack worked quite well inside. The AtmosFX screens seemed to be appealing to some of the guests, I didn't think they looked too bad and were most certainly better than the previous screens. I don't know if it was just me, but I thought the Spider was moving with much more range, I'm not sure though.

Overall I would say the ride wasn't bad, for Duel, but they definitely need to work on timings and also the bat & screaming head scenes - I really hope they do. Would also be lovely to see "Electric Bill" have some effect added to highlight him a little more? Also the Trommel, which we know they are working on.

The Smiler station was appalling, the concrete really should be washed and the LEDs on the stairs fixed.

EDIT: Some Scent Pods would be amazing throughout the ride!

Duel was much improved over past seasons, but the smiler was horrific. Did it right after wicker man and the place looks decrepit. Covered in litter, paint coming off, most screens not working and the projection mapping inside still needs lots of work. The baggage hold area doesn’t look too bad except for the yellow floor but the ride area as a whole is not in a good state.

I do miss his evil laughter. One of the most bizarre changes to Duel was replacing original SFX with stock sounds or just outright removing it! The thundering around the shaking walls at the start is another example. The undertaker had no audio for a long time until this was restored a few years ago with a few more original SFX. I hope this is something they can address in the refurb.

the smiler was horrific.

I did it straight after Wickerman too, and it really does look horrific. I didn’t see one screen working, not even the LED panels. The Marmiliser wasn’t working other than the spots (which is sequenced incorrectly); plus the screen on the Marmiliser wasn’t working in sections.

I don’t understand why they let it get like that. It’s going to cost them more in the long run to get it back to an acceptable standard.

Aroma effects used to be there as soon as you walked in and were really effective. I think they'd be fixed soon.

Absolutely, the SFX need to be totally overhauled next I think. The Duel SFX were just awful and stock sounds repeated throughout the ride. Even when some of the old sounds were put back couple years ago, it wasn't timed right and some are just inaudible. The old sound was great but you could go further today with sound design too.

New music is awesome! Goodbyeeee Duel theme.

Speaking of music, the terrible speakers on top of Rehydrator are back, playing the Oblivion station music. Why? It bleeds horribly into the surrounding areas, it sounds so tinny and detracts from the area. Sounds like some bad BBQ patio music from 1995

Was MUCH cooler when this area was just the loud sound of the cars dropping into the hole and the strange industrial atmos from the queue, then the music in the station with the proper set up, just as you're about to set off.

Having said that the other new audio improvements are fantastic... Like the heritage music on white bridge (I was worried this would be too dominating but it's subtle and really nice), and the spoopy music heading between Duel. Thankfully the crackling Nemesis music on the Gloomy Wood paths has gone, now it's much better hearing Nemesis for the first time as you walk down Forbidden Valley. Great!

The AtmosFX screens are just too bright. They look like screens rather than paintings. Maybe someone should go and check out the OLED's they used on HPFJ for an example of something that actually looks realistic?

Harry Potter uses a bespoke screen treatment to look like canvas as well, so more a specialist effect. It would have been a fantastic idea to have moving portraits in the Duel preshow, but not the gimmicky stock videos they have at the moment and not such huge bright screens that aren't going to convince anybody!

I hope the whole idea is rethought. There are ways to do it fantastically, along with restoring and relighting the rest the room to be less empty.

Good job getting rid of the 'filmed in a day' preshow video though, as much as I loved it for its sheer weirdness

Liked the additions to the indoor queue, overall some of the UV painting is questionable and the lighting is way out. Music is good and nice to see some old effects working.

Exactly what I was about to put. The new effects in the indoor queue were good, but the UV Painting makes it looks worse in my opinion and there is far too much lighting in parts. I like the music and nice to see more targets and effects working. Although, there is a few that work but don't get lit up at all. Just think they've over done the UV paint though.

I'm sure the paintings screens can be turned down. It's the fact the ride requires sunglasses and looks like a giant Sun bed that bothers me more, not so easy to fix I'd wager.

I think Duel would be a lot better if they could just reduce the light levels from the new 'UV' lights.

There are still other issues though - some effects remain unreliable, both sets of bats worked yesterday but were not moving today, with their mechanisms now clearly visible. Some sound effects seem to have gone AWOL too, most notably the two giant monsters towards the start of the ride.

Everything’s too bright, and too many effects are now visible.

I’m glad they’ve done work on it, but there’s clearly more to be done.
