TBC: SW9 Speculation

I'm not a great fan of flat rides at all. In fact I'd say of the many I have done I have only really enjoyed about 2 or 3 of them. Quite like the Pendulum swings and I really enjoyed Bling (Star Shape) at Blackpool as well.

The park does need some major attractions that aren't coasters though. I'd just prefer more dark rides including doing something with Sub Terra and also a brand new water ride however I think the latter looks unlikely due to the climate. Perhaps a major rehaul of the rapids with new theming would be good.

Sub Terra replacement and CCL surely have to be next on the agenda.

Like I've said before, we need a water ride to rival Valhalla, however I don't think the Towers will ever pull this off though. Alton definitely need more flats and to get the park operations back up to the standard that it needs to be, which I think the latter is a priority over any new SW at the moment. There is no good in building more SW if Alton are having to make more cuts to pay for it. Last years cuts were bad enough, this years cuts have gone way too far.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I was thinking; as we waited 5 years between SW7 (The Smiler) and SW8 (Wicker Man), then I reckon we will only be waiting 3 years for SW9. So going by that, I reckon we will see a planning application in mid-2019 and the ride opening in 2021.

Also, I believe SW9 was always forecast to be 3 years after SW8, even when Merlin reverted to a 4 year CAPEX cycle.

I would expect the next high CAPEX at Towers to be in 2022 as per current Merlin cycles. Who's to say if that will be SW9 though, it may not be a coaster.

:)

The next large investment should be split across several non-coaster rides if you ask me...

I would rather they spent £18m across a good (large) new water ride, plus maybe 2 or 3 flat rides... plus a large investment in existing rides/attractions.

Alton has enough large coasters for the time being.

Does anyone know what the World's First Water Ride that JW said he had designed at last year's TT event was?

The subject got changed and he never elaborated.

Um... I'm not sure, actually. I remember him mentioning that he asked B&M to manufacture it and they said no because they wanted to stick to coasters... so I don't think it'll be SW9, unfortunately. One does have to wonder what a B&M water ride would have been like, though.

I love water rides and miss the flume so much. We need to find out what JW's idea was and if it will ever come to fruition anywhere.

Now before I arrange a kidnapping, does anyone have a less extreme method.

Incidentally, I think a B and M water ride would awesome.

Why doesn't someone email/message him and ask him to divulge any details he would be willing to give?

I think members on this site have contacted him before.

We still need an airtime machine! Wicker Man has a little, but it is very limited.
I've said it before, but an RMC would suit Towers perfectly. Preferably a launched one to replace Rita.

I do agree with @AstroDan though, I don't think a large new coaster is what the park needs right now. Reopening the closed rides and the addition of some new support rides, like flats and perhaps a new water ride (though I don't think this is as necessary as others) before SW9 would be ideal.

Re-introducing shows and other entertainment would also be a step in the right direction.

Admin- appreciate why you removed Wardleys email. For any others out there can I suggest a read of his website - quite interesting

Knock down Rita and put in an exact clone of Taron - I'd take that ;)

Agree Towers are in desperate need of flats. On #snowpening day last month when it was just Hex open really made me realise how little there is to do for thrillseekers aside from the coasters.

I remember the year Thorpe installed Detonator, Zodiac and Vortex and how exciting it was (although I was 10, when everything is exciting).

The key is too install *good* flat rides and not dross like Submission. I don't think they'd go for another top spin as Ripsaw rarely had a queue, but look at Talocan at Phantasialand .. that's how you get people excited about a flat ride.

Provided AT don't remove a coaster in the current lineup to make way for SW9, where are the possible locations?

Beyond the Air car park and the space that CATCF currently occupies, I guess they're quite limited.

You also have the Forbidden Valley site that was dropped for SW8, replacing The Blade and going behind Sub-Terra.

They couldn't make a wooden coaster work here within a reasonable price tag due to the nature of wood coaster supports and the amount of rock removal required for them, but a steel coaster could work.

There's also the space in Gloomy Wood where the Broomstick Coaster concept was to be situated.

Or they could get creative and interweave it amongst their existing attractions and areas a la BPB and Gröna Lund. Not sure if that would really work at Alton, though.

I think it will be in the dark what ever the coaster even though the future plans don’t apply anymore I feel this dark ride will be another B and M coaster. I can see nemesis being taken down soon, but not when SW9 comes. There was talk about relocating spinball wizard and putting a new ride there, but still this may not be the case now. SW9 will have a worlds first element like previously. I’m sure reta will be around for at least 3 more SW projectS.
