So, who here watches Westworld?

Season 2 started this week, a long while after the end of season 1. But boy was it worth the wait! I worried that Season 2 would be a let down now that we seemingly knew how everything worked and what exactly was going on. Yet they seem to have thrown in yet more mysteries and timelines!

To me it seems like we are following one timeline with Bernard, Charlotte, William and Maeve straight after the events of the Season 1 finale. And then there is a second timeline, again with Bernard and lots of Delos people that seems to be taking place sometime in the future, but how far? I'd imagine we will work towards finding out how timeline 1 becomes timeline 2. At the moment it does not seem clear exactly where Dolores fits in with this.

One thing is for sure, it remains compelling viewing!

I'm an avid watcher of Westworld! S2 Premiere (as the Americans call it) was very compelling and asked a lot of questions.

From what I could gather, Timeline 2 is set about 2 weeks in the future.

Oh, I thought you meant that nice film with Yul Brynner.
Is it two or three remakes by now then?
Was an exciting new film in my youth.
I trust the series is based on the original film?
 
The first series was pretty good, but it took far to long to get going. The first episode was dire, though. The nudity was disapointing. The plot is not too bad once it gets going, but it didn't grip me. Yule BrynnerBot does appear in the background at one point though. ;)

Not seen the new series yet, but am recording it.

The film is far better if you ask me. But hey, gotta keep up appearances with the missus and pretend to like these things just because they are sci fi...
 
Did you know that the original film had the first cinematic mention of a computer virus...useless rob666 fact no. 427.

428...several nude scenes were cut from the original film to get a lower rating from the censors.
 
It was also one of the first ever uses of CGI, for Yule's "infer red vision".

Isn't it two weeks after Doloris killed Ford? I'm sure the Delos boss said to "Bernard" something to the effect of "where the f have you been for the last two weeks?" and they found Ford a bit mangled but not completely decomposed. That is assuming, that is the same "Bernard" that is with Hale in the secret lab, there are some tell tale signs to suggest he isn't.

Also is that Arnold in the opening scene with Doloris or Bernard, and when does that take place?

I think like season 1 there are three storylines, two seemingly quiet close to one another in the timeline, and one either a long time prior, or a long time later and the whole lot is being told from Bernard's point of view this time, like Doloris in season 1.

Good point, I had forgotten about that! I certainly think it is most likely that the opening scene was indeed Arnold, and we are seeing that his concerns at that time are being proven.

Having enjoyed the first season a lot (especially the second half), I was a bit nonplussed by this opening episode, even if it was technically spectacular. I'll stick with it for a few more episodes, but I think it might be going in a less interesting direction. In the first season, the dramatic tension comes from the machines realising their situation, as well as what they might be capable of, physically and emotionally. Now that they've largely woken up and are just killing people, it's not as fun as I expected. And 'mysteries' such as the random tiger on the beach sailed a bit too close for Lost for me.

Saying that, I know somebody who has been fortunate enough to see the first five, who assures me it remains pretty ambitious. I know this show is meant to be HBO's eventual replacement for GoT, but that arguably also became less interesting from it's more low-key, character based first seasons to the Dragonfest it is now. I just think they might have blown their load a bit too soon.
 
The tiger crossed from another "World" aka another park on the island, think of it that a flamingo from Zufari wondered into the vampire queue line at Chessington, they commented that it had never happened before so it wasn't just the humanoid hosts that had become self aware, but the animals too.
 
Really enjoyed the first two episodes of season 2. I thought things were going to be nice and simple, but after watching episode 2, I feel like I need to re-watch them both again.

I think I enjoyed this episode more than the first, and I really enjoyed the first. Was great to get more of the back story.

Shame we have to wait another week for the next episode but it certainly makes getting up on a Monday morning a lot easier.
 
I just want to get this opinion out there now because it probably won't be revealed until something like episode 9, but imho:

All the hosts, including Doloris, are still following a narrative and are no more 'free' now than they were in season one, their 'freedom' comes in the form of being aware of their nature (robot sex slave), not them being sentient. The only host truly free is Maive who has defied her narrative (of infiltrating the mainland) to go find her "daughter". Their narrative is 'the door' game for William created by Robert.

Mr Lowe who woke up on the seas shore is a new Bernard built by Charlotte and given the Abernathy data in the secret lab because she has probably known all along that Bernard is a host - no bullet wound on right temple suggests this.

After last weeks quite simply brilliant episode, is it just me who thought that this weeks was somewhat boring with nothing of real substance happening? Sure we saw Shogun World, but I do not see how it really added to the overall story.

It's going to cause some problems for the hosts like Hector seeing essentially his double... I think it's going to screw with them a bit and potentially cause something disastrous. Also the fact that Teddy has now had a massive alteration means he may become completely different character.

I really enjoyed this weeks episode, it was different to last weeks but still good. Maybe because I was watching at the wrong time/my TV is not very good but some of the night time scenes were hard to make out. I can not believe we are already half way through the season.

I really enjoyed seeing them arrive in Shogun World, and the story was just a rehash of WestWorld. I thought that was really clever and enjoyed it. When the music kicked in as they arrived, it just worked for me.

Maeve getting the ability to used the low level network connection to control hosts was very well done as well. Looking back at the previous episodes, they bring this up, but I never thought about Mauve using it to send commands.

Did anyone else think in this episode they were hinting that they know Bernard is a machine?

They did not really move anything forward from Episode 4, but its clear, or at least in my mind, that they are trying to download a human mind in to a host, so they can live forever. Is this what is so important, the memory of James Delos? Did Ford discover this is what Delos was try to do, or did he know the whole time?

I just cant help it, but I cant help but feel that another human character is going to end up being a robot, could it be Elsie?

Arnold, remember in episode 4 Bernard remembered that Ford made him print another host/human hybrid mind, I recon Ford had taken an image of Arnold's brain before he topped himself, and this is his way of saying, you were right all along bud. It's my pet theory that the "Mr Lowe" that woke up on the beach is this reprinted Arnold and not Bernard, who we'll probably find in a lab somewhere.

Of course Ford knew what Delos was doing, I think he actually figured the procedure out, unlike William who failed, which is why there was so much animosity between them in season one.

I too am not too interested in Madam Maive's adventures, neither Teddy and Doloris (since she is only acting through another Narative and no more free now than she was in season one) and we already know what happens to Teddy, the only story that is poking my interest is Williams.
 
Anyone remember the old days when subtitles had a dark band behind them? Can't remember the last time I saw that. I find it really hard to read tiny white text on a changing background.

Agree that it felt like a bit of a filler episode.

I predict that Mave will end up with an army of dominated samurai, and they will inevitably clash with Dolores / "Wyatt" and her army of cowboys.

So, West World, Shogun World, [Raj?] World... Anyone got any guesses regarding the themes of the remaining three "worlds"? In the film (and presumably the book) they also had a Roman World and Medieval World. Wouldn't surprise me if there was some kind of sci-fi / space themed park with aliens and ray guns. Maybe even a retro 50's sci-fi theme with Flash Gordan style adventures?
 
Probably, before the micro sites went tits up you could see in the source code the name of the other parks, although some were referred to as Park 4, Park 6 etc.

Oh? That probably means the writers haven't decided yet and are making it up as the go along then. Doesn't surprise me when JJ Abrams is involved. If this turns out to be another Lost, I will NOT be happy.
