2019: Scandinavia & Snorri Touren

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they already had ideas on the table for a possible Batavia replacement. I feel that Europa have been trying to push away from being a Disney clone ever since Disneyland Paris opened and no doubt would have considered options for how to change up this ride.

Personally I’d love to see Mack’s answer to Symbolica. Kind of fitting wouldn’t you say in the Dutch area of the park? ;)

I'm of the view that we'll see much of Scandinavia very similar to how it was. There'll be some changes no doubt for guest flow as it was a little narrow in places, but the essence of the place will be the same. Fjord Restaurant will no doubt see some changes to stop the servery queue being so cramped as well.

Batavia wise, I'm sure too they had thoughts/plans for something there but their older coasters took higher priority. It's difficult to say what they'll do to it at the moment, they desperately need it rebuilt and back in service. As a result, I can't imagine anything too groundbreaking in terms of design, I reckon it'll still be a high capacity water boat ride. What we see theme wise is another matter though. Will we see the same pirates theme to keep with tradition, or will they go all out with something a little more crazy or different?

It's been a weird old couple of years for EP really. We've gone from themes of rides that've stayed the same for years to Eurosat receiving it's crazy retheme and now the potential for another of the park's classics to be rebuilt in a different style. I'm guessing there's a real discussion between the traditionalists at the park and those who want to modernise and reimagine!

This is a very good point. We have seen Roland passing down more control and being open to accepting more of their ideas, just as his father accepted more of his ideas as time passed by. I can't help but feel Roland will have the final say when it comes to what happens next in terms of replacing what has been lost.

You've got to love Europa so much; already working on reconstruction plans!

:)

In terms of what I think/would like to happen to the affected areas:

Scandinavia will be rebuilt in a similar style and fashion to what existed before. The main shops/restaurants will be modernised to keep up with current visitor numbers. There may be some infrastructural updates as others have mentioned. It will look very similar but have some differences at the same time.

It is unknown whether Hans Christian Tower and Vineta are/can be restored or that new hidden attractions will replace these. Who’s to say there won’t be though.

Fjord Rafting will probably reopen at somepoint, but that depends on how severe the damage is/was to the ride and whether they decide to as a way of managing park capacity or the ‘full experience’ I.E repairing/replacing scenery and buildings. Depending on tgis, it could reopen anytime from mid Summer or 2019.

Pirates In Batavia is where speculations become potentially less definite. I reckon they would’ve rethemed/updated the ride in 3-5 years time. Whether they would’ve kept a Pirate theme is unknown.

I reckon they will rebuild a similar scale water dark ride in the place for 2019/2020. Whether it brings a similar, varied or completely different theme remains difficult to see at this time. Even if the theme is different, I could potentially see the park adding some tributes/Easter eggs there dedicated to the original ride.

Europa is a park that rarely completely remove attractions (maybe even more-so than The Efteling). Aside from those unfortunate to be involved in the fire, the nearest attractions I know of to have been removed are Eurosat I and Old 99. Even then the ride systems have stayed very much the same (although updated) with just the themes considerably changed.

Just throwing another idea out there, this’ll never happen as it’s too edgy for a kids ride:

Remake Nights in White Satin: The Trip. Keep the ride as a boat ride but now you are sailing through the Amerstdam canals. The streets are alive with atmospher; music, vibrant colours and smells. And of course what journey through Amsterdam would be complete without drifting into the famous red light district ;)
You’ll come off not knowing what just happened... but you have been somewhere!

This idea sounds less insane when you remember they are building a CanCan Coaster.

Genius! I'd go one step further and pump genuine "smoke" in to the queue and ride building. Whatever eatery replaces the Chinese could have a "mushroom surprise" dish. And as for the "entertainers" while you dine...

An Amsterdam theme has so much potential!
... Though it's safe to say there won't be a bit where you float through Anne Frank's attic.

Scandinavia ‘alley’ was beyond doubt one of the most aesthetically pleasing areas of the park, and demonstrated perfectly why Europa Park is continuously applauded for attention, and it’s a huge loss.

However, I don’t think they will rebuild like for like - or at least hope they won’t. The place was not just a bottleneck, but also made for terrible guest flow around the park. This is now a blank canvas to come up with fresh plans, reconfigure space, and hope up through Holland to behind Blue Fire.

Also, yes it looked great, but besides the restaurant, what was actually there to draw people? It certainly wasn’t Vineta, and I doubt it was the HB Leisure stalls either.

The ice cream was great though

Interesting points. I personally think they will rebuild Scandinavia very closely to how it was previously. It was quite narrow but this did help add to the character of the street; it helped the guest to feel totally immersed. They probably will try to make it wider, but unless Pirates is replaced with a smaller show building then there is not much scope for creating too much more space for a wider street.

It would also no doubt take longer to design something totally new than it would to rebuild what they already have.

In terms of Pirates, all of the noise from the park at the moment suggests that they do want to rebuild it is a pirate themed boat ride. The spokesperson has said on a couple of occasions that Pirates was one of their most popular rides for families and important for the Mack family. I have no doubts that it will be improved and modernised, but I'm not expecting a huge change in theme.

:)

I know a lot of these views have been seen, but thought I'd post these courtesy of @AstroDan taken this morning. It now looks as though they're ready to open the path beside Vindjammer's exit pretty much imminently. Dan tells me they've also been working overnight at the site too, with cranes on site clearing debris too.

It's incredibly heartbreaking to see the damage and destruction. I've never been to Europa Park but it's really sad to look at the before and after photos.

I have every confidence that the Mack family can make things right again. They really know how to do things properly and they have acted throughout with such professionalism.

Ridiculously impressive that they seem to be working on this night and day now. Although at first Rafting looked like it needed debris picking up and that's it, there's a LOT of soot in that trough which is going to need full cleaning before the ride can be reopened. Lots of work to do, including demolishing the remainder of those building close by but they're making headway pretty quickly!
