Random Memories

I thought it might be good to have a thread for those Alton Towers memories that don't deserve their own thread.

A couple of competely random things to get us started:

Who can remember the chip vending machines near to the Forbidden Valley skyride station? I think there was also a toasted sandwich vending machine. I'm guessing they were grim as they never survived for long.

And back in the good old days™, wasn't there a Henry the Hound by the rapids camera? I'm sure he used to say "smile for the camera" for every boat, but maybe I'm imagining it.

Yes! I think the wooden platform he stood on is still there? Just after the waterfalls on the left.

The lion bar sponsored coaster challenge with a free t shirt for riding them all. T shirt displayed different forms of soiled pants based on the coasters intensity. I must have been about 10 so around 2000?

Wish I still had that t shirt!

There also used to be Pot Noodle vending machines by the FV sky ride station

I think I got one of those t-shirts too (but funnily enough it's not something I ever wore or kept). It could have been as early as 1998. I'm sure Oblivion was one of the coasters you had to complete. I think Ripsaw might have even been on the list?

I remember visiting as a young child and noticing a particular attraction in Merrie England. I don't know what it was called for certain (perhaps Knight's Challenge or something), but I don't seem to be able to find anything about it online. I remember people would sit in a few tiered rows facing outwards and maybe watching a screen or something?

Sorry this is vague, but perhaps someone knows what it was! :)

If it’s what I remember it was a VR game, from the early 2000s time I think? Opposite Eastern Express in the corner.

Yes, I would say about 2002/2003. I think it was a game (upcharge) where you donned VR headsets and then were encouraged to do weird chanting. I never went on it but presumably it was things like riding a horse, charging a castle and stuff like that.

I have a vague memory of a generic older relative telling me, "No, we're NOT going to waste our time going to Atlon Towers. It's just a bunch of tacky rollercoasters ruining a nice old stately home. Not like Chessington..."
(For clarity, this was before most of you were born ;) )

It's perhaps not that unfair then!

lol yes I remember that in Cine 2000 - and the area at the very front of the seats which were like reclined chairs set into the floor! Happy days!

I remember the scary stuffed animal tableau...all dressed up in Victorian clothing.
Used to be in a funny shed near Corky.
Bring it back!

The Cred Street McDonalds had a car on the roof with Ronald McDonald in it. Every 5-10 minutes or so it'd go "beep beep, wahoo!" (or something like that)

More like every 5 to 10 seconds, as I recall. That was a very well-themed McDonalds. It seemed quite inspired by Muppetvision in terms of humour and had at least one killer pun on the wall, although I'm struggling to recall it right now.
