They would have to remove the video that plays in the station though. People would almost certainly realise that it was missing.

Controversial opinion: I don't think Alton Towers should remove the VR. Considering that it's been reasonably popular this season, which has caused a decline in the overall throughput of the ride due to non VR seats not always being filled and the VR being so limited in capacity, I think it's possible that Alton Towers might be able strike a balance between VR and non VR capacity. I think it's possible (or at least logical, anyway) to increase VR capacity, even just adding a few extra rows of VR headsets to each train.
I don't think Galacfica has failed completely, I just think they haven't yet found the exact formula to make it a success. If they found the right balance between VR and non VR capacity, I genuinely think it could work.

I agree, personally the last couple of times I was on Air I was underwhelmed. The VR add something new and clearly the public are excited to try it. I enjoyed the VR, it makes Air an interesting ride again
Also as headsets get more powerful we could see an upgraded VR experience in the future?

I doubt it, they in theory have the capability to have multiple destinations which would increase rerides but they seem to be going the complete opposite direction.

I would be sad to see it go. I don't understand why they reduced the number of headsets, to me the VR seemed like a very cheap way to create a new attraction.

It's been a bit of a joke we were told : VR is the future, we would have multiple destinations, tech is the way forward. Three years on we have reduced capacity, the same destination and deteriorating theming. Technology may not be the future after all? ?

Is that why VR never really took off. Why people still read books after the kindle revolution and people don't use self service tills at the local supermarket unless the member of staff who these tills were supposed to replace force you. Technology isn't everything and I think this technology revolution isn't everything we are being sold! Sorry it's a bit off topic.

They could have one station doing VR and one without. But then I didnt want to do VR and my lad did. He ended up doing non with me as VR queue too long.

Sorry I don't see how any of that is relevant? People do use kindles, while some prefer to use the library or prefer the feel of paper books. Self service tills were created to reduce staff costs, not for customer benefit so naturally they suck.
VR headsets offer a different ride that clearly the public want (whether Merlin offer it or not), and will only get better as processor and display technology improve.

To be honest there is no answer as if a craft leaves station 1 it usually returns to station 2 , that is if both stations are operating. So this whole VR and non VR stations thing won't work unless all seats have VR and if you board at station 1 you have to use it and on station 2 you can't. Then there is the reliability issues you get with technology. So you have waited an hour to board the craft when half the headsets don't work and the IT technology firm who sold them this wonderful new idea can charge whatever they want to fix it because no one else can.

Amazon are now heavily pushing Kindle fire tablets but they do still produce standalone kindles.

I don't know anyone who has a VR headset. However specifically for roller coasters, VR has had at least some success worldwide. I don't think headsets on roller coasters are comparable to owning one. While expensive for an individual I imagine adding VR to a roller coaster is much cheaper than replacing trains, or adding a new attraction.
I don't understand why you're so down on the idea, you can still ride Air without a headset. Just like kindle owners don't stop you from buying paper books.
As for having one station with and one without VR, it wouldn't work on the days when only one station is operated. I don't know if some headsets are broken or something so they can't do this, but IMO the best way to operate would be to have VR on every seat and guests who don't want it can leave the headset in the pouch.
