2018: Eurosat Can Can Coaster / Madame Freudenreich Curiosités

Hi, after my visit to EP this is my feedback of the new eurosat,
well the queue was 45m, understandable being a "new" ride, but after waiting all that time, in the mid ride the music stop playing and was only a sad dark roller coaster, It's definitely not on my top list.

This was my slight concern about onboard audio, it can be hit and miss as it often is on Blue Fire. Having said that, Arthur did have problems with onboard audio when it first opened but has been fine ever since so hopefully these issues will be resolved soon. It is awful when onboard audio does not work, especially on a dark coaster.

:)

Blue Fire’s audio didn’t work at all last week (based on 3 rides over 3 different days). Last time I was at Disneyland Paris I also found Space Mountain and Rock’N’Roller Coaster to be hit and miss. Unfortunately speakers don’t like operating in forcefull conditions. Where possible I’d take a well tuned off-ride audio system.

About the VR part, Valerian, its only opened in strick times, where the queue is imense and stretches along the way making it difficult for people to pass.
In fact I really enjoyed the park having tried all the major attractions, but I went too far up the bar about the eurosat

I think it is fair to say there will be teething problems and the ride will change a lot in the coming weeks and months.

Love the Exterior theming, queue-line theming, track and train.
Main ride audio from the soundtrack sounds brilliant, as long as it is nice and loud on the ride.
I do not like the lift-hill audio at all, it sounds generic and doesn't seem to have any theme correlation with the rest of the new attraction, they appear to have shoehorned in the old SAT theme with no regard for if it works, to keep fans happy?
When they made a fuss of turning the track red it was obvious that it wouldn't have been fully dark inside anymore but the 2d cut outs do seem a little half-arsed, personally I'd be happy to see it as it is with a huge colourful lighting display. Doesnt need alot of space compared to theming objects and could look really good, from the top of the hill to the break run it needs to be an unrelenting assault on the senses.

The orchestral Sat mix is one of the best parts of the new ride. I was hoping they'd find a way to somehow keep it, maybe in a part of the queue audio, but was not expecting it to featuring. So having it as the lift music is awesome!

I agree with your second point though, I know they wanted it as a night journey through Paris but a grand lighting show to go with the upbeat music would work very well visually.

:)

I understand that people have this sentimental connection with it, but looking at new ride as a whole and ignoring what came before it then the lift music just doesn't fit with anything else and seems glaringly awkward.

I agree with you. I’m not really sure why it is called Eurosat CanCan at all to be honest. This is a new ride, with a new theme, and the time has already been to say goodbye to the previous resident of the dome.

The interior, I was expecting more and I’m sure more work will be made to achieve that. If anything it seems the 2D cut-outs are an interim measure before more work can be do to achieve the desired results. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more use of projections and animations though as they would take up less space than any physical theming.

Regardless though, it is still an indoor dark ride so I wasn’t expecting much theming on the actual ride section

Isn't there still a Eurosat themed ride with VR headsets through a different queue entrance?

That is not themed to Eurosat, it is themed to Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which is a Luc Besson film. Well that is the current VR film, there will no doubt be others in the future. The main theme of the VR area is very generic.

:)

Europa Park's choices of IP never fail to amaze me :tearsofjoy:

I think after Arthur being a success for the park (even though it bombed in the UK, the continentals seem to love it), it's no real surprise more Besson stuff is being jumped on...

Ah, I see! Thanks for explaining. I'd just assumed as it's called Eurosat CanCan and there is a VR option, that the VR would be Eurosat. It's going to be at least a year before I can get back and check it out so might have all changed by then anyway!

I think most people who knew Eurosat will always know the large dome that now houses CanCan Coaster and Coastiality as “Eurosat”... I guess keeping it in the name of both of these new attractions is a nice little homage to that. :)

Even the fabulous AMC The Walking Dead: The Ride at Thorpe Park Resort has extemely detailed 3D set pieces.

To be fair, not every theme park can aspire to be like Thorpe Park. :D

Personally I'm sorry to hear that the escalators have gone, although I can see that it would make it logistically easier to operate. But overall, I like the look of what they've done. I was a big fan of Euro Sat, so from an experience point of view I certainly didn't feel it was crying out for any changes. But the new theme does scream France a lot more than the old one. It sounds like the queue's very good with some extraordinary detail. Not really bothered about the VR, although being Europa Park, I'm sure it'll be well done.

I suppose it depends on what you wanted from it. Is it a gamer changer? I doubt it. But if it's helped to preserve one of my favourite coasters, then that's great. It's remarkable that Europa Park has 12 coasters (13 if you count Atlantica), has never removed a coaster and that the average quality is as high as it is. If the Can Can retheme doesn't drastically improve it, then that's as much a testament to the quality of the original as it is to the quality of the retheme. When you see lists of the theme parks with the best roller coasters Europa Park doesn't tend to feature, but when you consider that it has 12 coasters of such a consistently high quality, I think Europa Park is almost underestimated.

Edit: I've looked it up on RCDB and there's an incredible number of pictures. The fact that RCDB think it's worth having so many photos of a dark coaster is absolutely a testament to just how well themed the queueline and exterior are. Very few coasters have that many pictures on there. Dark coasters normally only get a few pics.

The layout is technically different, but it uses the exact same lift hill track pieces...

And what BPB now call Nick Streak uses the lift hill from the Velvet Coaster.
Your point, old bean...?

Even I haven't ridden the Velvet Coaster though Diogo!
Don't think anyone alive claims that cred.
Look it up quick someone.
