Efteling: General Discussion

Most important thing: never attempt to use the fairy tale forest as a shortcut under any circumstances. If you do want to go in (worth it if you have 2 days), use the entrance near Diorama and follow the proper route or you WILL get horrendously lost. You'll probably need 1-2 hours to get round, as long as you don't stray from the signed route in which case there's no hope for you.

Assume it's as busy as last year probably worth getting into the park when it opens and heading straight to Symbolica for a go on that. Remember there's 3 different experiences so pick the one you want to do most first. If it's a quieter day go back later to try the other two.

Get the train round the park at least once, such a nice experience.

Stay and watch the big fountain show when the park closes for the day.

Just enjoy the whole park, 2 days should be enough time to see and do everything.

We could potentially be there for 2 and a half days. Flight times mean we could have the afternoon on day 1, all day day 2 and most of the day day 3. Is this overkill? Day 1 is supposed to be busy and day 2 and 3 are said to be quiet. Cheers. :)

I went for a day and it was pretty quiet due to the constant rain, still felt like I needed another half a day at least to get rerides in and see everything properly. Sadly bob was closed when I went, hopefully it'll be open when I go later this year.

A few of bits of news regarding Efteling from Looopings.

Someone was injured on the Piraña rapids ride, shes appeared to have falled in the boat and has been left temporarily paralysed. Efteling have suggested that she stood up however she has denied this. Efteling have offer the group four free ticket sot come back!

In better news, it seems like the ride reservation system on Python is going wrong, causing confusion and dissatisfaction. The tickets are all running out fairly early in the day, meaning that peope are turning up at Python in the afternoons and are not able to ride there and then or get a ticket to ride later. It seems like there is no limit to how many tickets each guest can get, so the system to open to abuse.

I really hope this makes Efteling think twice about this stupid system before they implement it on other rides. But I fear that they are set on making such a system work park wide.

Finally, Joris is about to go down for a couple of weeks of maintenance, during this period a single rider queue will be added.

I have a feeling that they won’t just forget the reserve and ride system, but try and “improve” it. :(

Oh wow, that's a brilliant little model! Really does capture the look and feel of the real thing very well.

Visiting Efteling in October (maybe also September) and just noticed on the website Bob is listed as down indefinitely since the start of July. Anyone know what's happening with it?

I don't think Efteling even know what's happening with it to be honest. There has been quite a lot of questions over it's future becasue of all the problems it's apparently having..

The Bob will be no more after September 2019, as it's been announced by Looopings that a Mack Rides double family runway called Max & Moritz will take its place for the 2020 season! Efteling will get more specific with details later on, but theme is apparently based off a (very popular) 1865 German story by Wilhelm Busch about two mischievous boys.

In other Efteling news, Sprooksjebos is getting its 30th fairy tale in the form of the Six Swans. It'll go between the present Cinderella and Snow White sections with its own little boat ride and is said to be opening in autumn 2019. From Waalwijk Nieuws.

Sad to see that Bob is going, it was surprisingly good fun! It has had a lot of problems in the last couple of years though so I assume that they can no longer justify the maintenance costs.

I wonder how this impacts the new developments planned for the back of the park? I would imagine they may be delayed slightly.

:)

The expansion next to the hotel appears to be scheduled for 2021, so a couple of busy years for the park.

This is from their blog on the website released today:

New in 2021: new theme area with new attraction
In 2021 we will open a complete theme area. The new theme area will become part of the Travel Empire. In this new theme area, there will be a new attraction and a few smaller attractions next to the Efteling Hotel. Moreover, the Efteling Hotel receives a number of adjustments.

I've never managed to get on Swiss Bob on any of my visits and yesterday it was closed all day :(

So I took a look through the calendar and saw some extensive downtime for the below rides.
  • Bob (? - 31st Mar [calendar won't go any further forward])
  • Vogel Rok (today - 30th Nov)
  • Piranã (12th Nov - 30th Mar [might be seasonal])
  • De Vliegende Hollander (3rd Dec - 2nd Mar [may be seasonal but I have been on this in February previously])
So if anyone wants a final ride on Bob you may have a short Apr-Sept window to do so.

There will only be two operating Intamin Swiss Bob rides remaining in the world once this closes, both at Six Flags parks in the US.

:)
