The Alton Towers Dungeon

Is it that bad?

It depends on a varying degree of factors not limited to the various attractions themselves, staff turnover, management abilities etc. There are plenty of highlights working with them, but I've seen plenty of people leave the company in shadows of their former selves.

Given that Towers are seemingly struggling to recruit year on year in different roles now, it looks as if the Merlin Way™ is continuing to have a draining and detrimental toll.

As part of a new opening from early construction, I found it was like being on an episode of the apprentice. Surrounded by soul-less, corporate clean shirts with zero common sense.

They more they promote this job. The more I think it’s just marketing? Especially as some of the local papers are posting about it now.

Towers certainly wouldn’t normally advertise like this for one job.

As Towers have been known for their... shall we say aggressive marketing in the past *cough* Thirteen *cough*, it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious that what they're advertising are not the actual full time roles for the season? Seems to be some PR stunt whereby some people will be involved on opening day and win a 10 year season pass.

Haha this reminds me of Morwenna Angove’s th13teen boot camp :D:p and we all know how th13teen’s marketing went.

What I think I’m still struggling with this project is that they didn’t chose to put it in the towers? I know they would have lost some of their scarefest space, but it could have been a very unique dungeon with options for creative scenes around the Earls and the mansion. Beats a boring plague doctor scene for me anyday.

Bit misleading to say a lifetime annual pass that actually only lasts 10 years rather than a person's entire life

Exactly.

Let's be honest though, a Lifetime Pass* sounds much better than a 10 year pass. Just remember the asterisk ;)

*Lifetime Pass valid for 10 years from job start date.

Best options for a dungeons would have either been near the entrance or Galactica (for winter opening and hotel guests). Or in the towers, or behind the towers (like Hex), where you enter and queue in the towers but the rest of it is purpose built.

However both of these would have cost a lot more money to do than using an existing building and boat ride!

Hah! They've updated the concept art on the website to make it look as if the Dungeons are in the Towers themselves, not in a former chocolate factory tin shed situated in an area meant to be oozing in colour and imagination...

To be fair you wouldn’t want to, they are normally so dark you won’t be able to get any decent photos or videos.

No doubt some official photos will appear when it opens, or maybe if they do a press event stuff will appear.
