Pleasurewood Hills

Great news if this is true as it is easily one of the park's best rides (not that that's saying much). Quite a unique coaster as well really in terms of how well integrated / landscaped it is, the polar opposite to those awful off-the-shelf-built-on-concrete Wild Mouse rides like Marble Madness... well worth saving.

Pleaurewood Hill have announced on Facebook that a classic ride will be making a comeback this year. Rumours among local enthusiasts are that it's the park's former coaster Rattlesnake which has been SBNO For the last few years.

Bloody better be.

Local rumours are for a farmyard type area being built down there, with the train going back to the Ladybird theme, this would match with the balloon ride in the area also being refurbed and the fact that the tunnels were probably a bit worse for wear.

How on earth is this place still open? I realise it's pretty much the only theme park for miles but it's such an awful ride line up. Surely this one will be the next one to leave us? Always sad when it happens but I just don't see a future for this place at all.

Oh gawd, they're going to turn the train backwards, aren't they?

I was more thinking of spinning cars? :D

This is my local Themepark, it was about 10 years since I last visited. Not worth the short trip despite the fact that the parking is free

The UK has lost so many of these mid sized theme parks (American Adventure, Pleasure Island, Camelot, Loudon Castle - to name a few of the more obvious ones). There are so many reasons why we need these kinds of parks and very few of them are left (Lightwater Valley, Oakwood). Not to mention it being a sad day for the staff involved when parks close and people lose their jobs.

There are a lot of back end theme park companies in the UK industry providing all kinds of services (theming, scare event design, developing shows like Pleasurewood Hill's diving show, music composition, customer service training programmes). These companies rely on having smaller parks. With just a few big parks, mostly run by chains, the back end of the British theme park industry ends up like the farmers and catering companies who end up selling all their produce to one or two big supermarkets. Suddenly they can lose 100% of their customers overnight. We need smaller parks to help them spread the risk. These smaller parks also incubate talent. Many of us know that John Wardley designed his first rides for Barry Island. A lot of the leading talent in the UK industry started off at small parks.

Many people will also be introduced to the theme park industry through these smaller parks. There are a lot of parents who will take their kids to a theme park if there's one nearby and handy to visit, but who won't go trekking across the country to find one. It's also worth remembering that most parks were small once. Not that long ago Paultons was seen as a small park that not many enthusiasts were interested in.

I'm not saying we should support these parks as if they were charities, but it'll be a sad day if Pleasurewood Hills closes.

It's has a big company owning it. If they can focus on the family market with young children in the local area then it pays off. Remember a lot of people here won't be willing or able to travel to Chessington etc.

Yup, just imagine Lightwater closing...so many picnic days out on the big lawn with mates, silly sessions in the Pub in the Wood...
Knowing that the Ultimate was out there, hidden in the landscape, rusting away.

Noooooo! :(

I'm really trying to plan a visit but it's so damn difficult to get to.

It is out in the middle of the countryside, but only a brief taxi from Ripon, which is served by train.
Try to go once a year with tyke mates with young kids, they have slowly moved up from the Ladybird to the Ultimate over time.
It should be said that the park is...a park!
Lots of trees and green, not many thrill rides but four coasters...one a kiddy.
The Ultimate is the reason non locals attend.
A ride like no other...probably the biggest amateur layout in the world, and British Rail really were called in to help complete the mile and a half circuit.
Very much worth the effort for the experience speedy.
And the park feels a bit on the edge...proposed expansion and lodges haven't happened...so it's future isn't really certain.
Support your local park tykes!
Edit...sorry, completely the wrong topic for this.
Back on track...Pleasurewood, my tyke mate used to live east of angular, but as a coaster hater we never got further than Yarmouth...which he has always refused to call great!

I've actually been twice already, but I want to ride the Ultimate again! I have family in Beverley which makes it more complicated... if anyone wants to share a taxi sometime from Thirsk railway station let me know! :D

I still haven't got to Pleasurewood yet.

PS: what's a tyke mate?

A friend in Yorkshire.
Tyke is a term of endearment / abuse.
Often also used as a term for an uncouth fool, or a small child...little tyke.
Edit...
Like calling a Geordie or Brummie.

Rattlesnake is back. It's now known as the Egg-Spress. This looks to tie in with the idea of the farmyard area in the bottom end of the park. I hope they can pull this off as it would be great to have a good themed area in a small theme park in the UK.

Wait! is this a joke. I thought the rattlesnake is back with a twist. Not an entirely new coaster based on bleeding chickens.
