Flat Rides: What would you like to see come to the park?

This is what I would like to see come to the park.

As for Forbidden Valley, whilst these ideas sound a little far fetched I hope you agree with them. I was thinking an abc Tourbillon with a rusted appearance would be a suitable replacement of Ripsaw and a Huss Giant Fisbee would be a good improvement on Sub Terra, although they'll need to do a bit of digging for it.

I can’t understand what Merlin have against adding flat rides to there parks unless there cheap and got a IP attached to them.
Is it cause they have a short life cycle in the parks and don’t bring extra visitors to the park?

^It's a strange one because they don't have a problem with flat rides; they add family flat rides frequently.
It seems to just be thrilling flat rides that they refuse to install. The park desperately needs more of them and they simply cannot afford to lose The Blade or Enterprise.

A new generation Huss topspin on the Submission site would be a dream.
 
It's a combination of maintenance costs & lack of marketing appeal of flat rides. They clearly don't feel they would bring in the punters.

I'm not a huge fan of flat rides personally. There are a couple of exceptions like the big Gyro swing etc but generally they are always a bit nauseating for me. I think this is part of the issue for why they don't add them these days. Also I happen to think that if a flat ride isn't themed well then they can cheapen the look of a park too and make it look like a fun fair etc.

Don't think we'll be seeing any major flat rides coming to Towers any time soon.

My sentiments exactly.
 
It could be that CBeebies brings parents with kids upto the age of 6 then they know any coaster added brings extra guests and extra income from Fasttrack tickets where thrill rides brings nothing to the park. The blade and the enterprise is really there for families can go on while the taller kids go on the 1.4m tall coasters.

It's probably as a result of the same market research that told them for years that no one would want a woodie, a woodie would never be popular etc etc
 
It’s also having a flat ride that no other park has got. Like in the 90’s to 2001 Alton Towers was the only uk park where u could ride on Supernova,Breakdancer and double Swinging Inverter. Since then all theses rides have been removed and replaced with queue lines,another closed ride and trees/grass.
Even the ug swinger was moved and replaced with picnic tables and Ripsaw replaced with HB game stalls.
Under Tussaud’s the only ride that was removed and not replaced for the following season was the Black Hole.
 
A flat ride would be great for a medium investment year if they went for it. Regarding the marketing angle, I'm sure the department wouldn't have a problem selling the idea of something from the deranged pages of KMG/Mondial etc that looks like a torture device crossed with an industrial accident.
 
I'd quite like to see an ABC Tourbillon in Ripsaw's old location. Although I'd be happy with anything honestly.
 
I think a classic carousel or chair swing actually in the gardens would be a good addition. It would take some foot-fall in that direction and would fit in nicely. If they put it down by the greenhouse, they could install a higher IP eating venue inside.

I do think a few tranquil rides in the gardens would be a real plus, and help increase the demographic of the park

Not really, there are some areas of the park whereby it is agreed that suitable developments can take place. And other areas of the park where Alton Towers do not even need to have planning permission for smaller developments.

The Gardens are Grade I listed and the chances of any ride development being permitted is extremely slim. Take a read of our Planning Restrictions article for more information!
 
I was reading back over these - a few could really work in AT

the sky fly could be Fobidden valley themed as an extension to the nemesis (think king kong fighterplanes style)

the drop one could easily go in Katanga canyon and have a mine feel in the style of big thunder mountain
 
@Rob I do see where you are coming from, however, something along the lines of a carousel or chairswing would not be a fixed ride, so it would need no alterations to the gardens as such. There would be no damage, no changes it would quite literally be a period ride sat in appropriate place.

You see similar things happen frequently at grade one listed halls for, say, Christmas or celebrations. As long as it was maintained as a (semi-perminant) temporary attraction I can't see what the issue would be other than the usual hub-bub AT gets.

It's a tricky one. Any temporary ride of that nature would need a solid and relatively flat base to sit on and I'm not too sure that there is any space in the Gardens for this. And you can be pretty sure that they would not be given permission to create a flat concrete base if a natural one could not be found.

I do like your idea though, on old vintage ride along with a traditional tea rooms in the Gardens would be a delight.
