If you have a spare hour and a half, I've found an incredibly well made documentary about the complicated causes that lead to World War Three...
... Seamless blending of archive footage and modern actors. You could almost believe it was real.

 
I don't know how I've never stumbled upon this before. I certainly don't remember it from kiddyhood (must have been a bit too young to get it, even if I did see it at the time).

Looks amazing but also harrowing given how true the events are.

Has anyone been watching this? You can't even attempt to understand the decisions made hours after the explosion, yiu can see why the ussr broke up a few years later.
 
Not yet, but I do plan on watching it.

Recently found a very good podcast from a Scottish lass, about the UK doom plans. She first saw Threads aged 3, and it scarred her for life (well DUH), leading to this obsession.

Just finished watching episode 3. Wow! It's a drama that plays like a horror, although very little dramatisation needed given the horror of the events.

Only downside is that an actor from my local village is in it and everytime I see him in films it just ruins the immersion

It is very blunt about the affect of high dose short exposure to radiation.

I think it should be shown to every nuclear science students as a warning for the dangers of nuclear energy.

There is a podcast on the series. Where the writer talks about how he came to writing key plot points.

Obviously, a few areas was given over artistic license. Such as the 3 divers and torches.

Also the real story of the head technician in the control is astonishing.

I think nuclear science students will be far more clued-in to the dangers of exposure to radiation than some TV producer ;)
 
Found a rather good radio 4 play about an incoming PM, who is told to sit down and write the "letters of last resort". Well worth a listen.

I have podcast addiction. Proper hbo podcast nice to hear, why wrote it the he did. How he listened and read multiple stories and came up with what best for.

I think the programme cam be used for up and coming scientist. As it's a lesson in listening to what others are telling you in regards to nuclear safety.
