Oakwood Discussion

As @RicketyCricket recently did his review above and mentioned Megafobia's airtime, may I ask you all; what is Megafobia's back row like in terms of airtime? I have ridden Megafobia myself in July 2016, but I rode it in the very front row. It was at the end of a hot day, and the front row certainly had some very good moments of sustained airtime (not quite as good as Mako, but Mako is something else!), but I've heard good things about the back row! My dad says that the back row has "way more airtime than Mako" and that it had "so much airtime it was almost scary", and I've also heard enthusiasts rave about its standing ejector.

So for those of you who've ridden Megafobia in the back row;
  • Is it better in the back?
  • Is the airtime stronger than that of Mako at SeaWorld Orlando (by far the most airtime-filled coaster I've done) on the back?
I would also like to ask; is it controversial that I like Wicker Man better than Megafobia, as most people seem to prefer Megafobia?

Tbh I didn't bother with the front row, just went as close to the back as possible on all 5 rides.

It's a completely different kind of airtime to Mako.

Mako is far more pleasant, Megafobia tries to catapult you into Pembroke Dock. Again though this was far stronger on the very back row, with a fully slack seatbelt and a huge gap between my thighs and the lap bar.

I found Megafobia a bit too extreme in the back. I actually preferred the front. In the back there was lots of airtime but for me, the track seemed to bottom out a bit too quickly and so after the airtime I would find myself being whacked back down hard into the seat which wasn't very pleasant.

Megafobia is incredible in the back if it's running fast, so much airtime!

I personally don't find Megafobia uncomfortable, but the same applies for Grand National in the back row - don't find it rough at all.

Ah right, so Megafobia back row is intense but not overly comfortable. Thanks for the clarification, guys!

Sorry for double posting, but Dizzy Disk seems to be coming along well:

We had a lovely day at Oakwood today! We got 9 rides in, and things really seem to be looking up here! I wrote a trip report, if you want to know more:

Oakwood was indeed very quiet today, we also visited and I don't think there can have been more than 100 people on park.

Staff were amazing and friendly throughout the day and the reride policy on Megafobia is awesome, allowing us to get the following ridecount;

Megafobia x25
Speed x5
Drenched x2
Bobsleigh x2
Creepy Crawler x2
Snake River Falls x2
Skull Rock x1
Treetops x1
Spooky 3D x1
Flying School x1
Neverland Chase x1
Pirate Ship x1
Witch Hunt (scare maze) x1

Megafobia was as good as ever, some amazing airtime in the back row and I'd say it felt smoother in places where it had been retracked/had wood replaced.

Speed wasn't so good (lifthill was terrifyingly slow and I'm sure it never used to be trimmed as much before the barrel roll) but the second hill is still brilliant.

Witch Hunt is pretty decent.

Spooky 3D was awful, the music loop was broken so there was hardly any audio whatsoever and quite a few effects broken.

Drenched was good but I miss the force on the drop in the back row :(

Parkwide audio has been changed to themed music for this year instead of the song loop, made for a very different atmosphere I found. Speed's new soundtrack is cool and suits it well.

Didn't brave Waterfall today as the water level looked quite low and saw a few people get soaked.

Very pleased to see that work has started on Bounce with signage explaining what they're doing, am looking forward to getting back on this.

The Disko looks pretty good with the bright (but tasteful) colour scheme and I like the logo designs.

Overall a very good day with amazing staff and service. It was a shame to see the park so quiet but the awful weather in the morning may have contributed a lot to this.

Would you have been the guy I saw marathoning the back row of Megafobia on a virtually empty train when I was eating my lunch, by any chance? If I'd been able to marathon Megafobia in any row, I'd actually have chosen the front; while the airtime was fantastic in the back (particularly over the first drop), I found it a bit too rough for my liking, and I actually you found you got more of a sustained push over some of the other hills in the front, which I liked.

I'd agree that the park was quiet; me and my mum were the only people in the Speed area when we initially got there! We weren't even sure if it was open, but it was and we had a train to ourselves!

Funny you should mention the themed audio; my nan said it drove her mad!

We were on the back for ages so probably, we did swap rows a lot though (depending on whether anyone was waiting in our gate).

I reckon so. It could be the smaller version (Disk-O 16) or the trailer version but it I don't see anything to suggest it isn't Zamperla. It does seem to be listed across the internet as Zamperla (For example).
Something about the lights and supports looked a bit weird to me... but I think you're right as the one at Dollywood (also called Dizzy Disk) looks very similar and I can't see them getting anything but the Zamperla model

I'm looking at going maybe Monday 26th of August, am expecting the park to be not too busy... ?

Anyone interested in sharing a taxi from Narberth station that day?

At the park today! Megafobia and Speed are both good fun. Anyone know how long Bounce has been down for? I saw an article which suggested it was reopening, but based on the state of it today I'm guessing they never got it running.
Bounce has been down for years, you’re correct they were working to get it going again but I assume they’ve run into problems.

Was at park last weekend, that Dizzy Disk seemed to go on forever, some people were looking a bit white at the end :D
