Fine, a dressed staff member, a torch and maybe "Hurry, come this way". (As it's been for a while)

Generally I don't see the need to interrupt the show with instructions to the voice activated generator.

I've not experienced this new change so maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds unnecessary.

Do remember the No1 bit of Alton Towers staff training... "When the guests enter the park, they leave their brains in their car / on their coach". Never truer words said. We're getting like the USA - unless there is a sign saying "Do this / Don't do that" guests will do whatever you don't want them to do.

In the USA the guests who do what you don't want them to do - as there was no sign warning them - will be straight on the phone to their lawyer too.

You only have to look at all the "Danger - Ride Area - Do not enter" signs at the Merlin parks now. Common sense would tend to indicate that human vs an 8T Nemesis train would indicate who would come off better, but no. Common sense has been left in the car / on the coaches.

Back in 2002 when Air opened & had it's frequent "technical anomalies" (as Towers liked to call them - read "breakdowns" for a more accurate description) the ride area was seen by many guests as an escape route from the queue. The idiots did not realise that this just slowed down any re-start as the entire ride area had to be checked. This just led to the higher fencing and the "caged-in" feel of the queueline.

When was the last 7pm closing time outside Scarefest?
In my opinion, opening times at Alton Towers should be 1 hour longer than they are now. We can only hope this trend continues.

Just picked myself up off the floor...
7pm...
then again Towers are closed 13 days out of the next 31 days so they can afford to pay the staff an extra hour today

Would you prefer 10-4 opening hours Monday to Friday in September or 10-5/6 on two days and closed on the other three?
I wish Towers could take one of these options rather than 10-4 two days and closed three.

Well done towers! ! Looking at ridetimes the place looks rammed and that's great news smiler seems to be just as popular as wickerman if not more so looking at the queuetimes. Hopefully 7pm closes can become more often next season and Alton can look at some sort of new attraction for next season ( not a coaster! ) to keep the crowds growing. Let's hope this new CCL attraction is something good and better than this year's dungeon attraction

The park closed at 7.00pm in the school holidays in 2009, 2010 and 2011 before it was cut back to 6.00pm from 2012 and has remained as such since.

From my recollections, there has been no theme park event of note in the park at this time of year since 2006's Great British Bucket & Spade Event which is incredible really.

Here is an article I wrote back in 2009 back when TS was TT

Since 2012, there have been fleeting 7.00pm extensions on very, very busy days but as far as I know, none in the last 4 years at least. The latest we have had were a few 6.30pm extensions this time last year.

Until the park have a compelling reason for guests to stay in the park, it is unlikely we would see anything later because frankly there is no reason for guests to stay.

Just read this hilarious post about someone's experience on Hex today that makes me cringe very hard.
(Also are these Hex posts worth their own general discussion now? I couldnt find a Hex topic)

as soon as the doors opened into the Octagon room, there was an actor with a torch in his hands shining at us telling us to “move along and follow me” obnoxiously loudly. We did so and once we gathered in the room near the TV screens, he started babbling lines about welcoming us to this historic site and that we should be observing all the artefacts around us before the screens started. He even injected some humour into the mix trying not to confuse his co-worker Boris for the PM...

the equipment was malfunctioning, he proceeded to begin shouting “Stay calm ladies and gents! Remain where you are! It’s only a temporary glitch...”. From this point where the strobe lights occurred, he just aimlessly started flashing his torch in our faces, pointing the light randomly with an OTT reaction coupled with screams in sync to the effects used, almost as if this scene is meant to be funny, like a Dungeon scene.

As we walked up to the vault doors, he then followed us and started talking loudly again saying “You enjoying the tour so far?” with more humorous lines added

This kind of acting in dark rides just does not work. It's so lame, unless you go all the way and make it totally tongue-in-cheek (the opposite of Hex). We already have the Dungeon for that sort of thing.

"Ladies and gentlemen activate the vault" uuhghhhh nooooooo! Please get rid!

Cooorrr 7pm closing.....we're getting there Towers, the suns then creeping down by then....no where near the horizon mind you.

All the things that need improvements at Towers and they put time and effort into changing one of their best rides that has worked just fine for 20yrs. Leave.Hex. Alone.

TTQ closes this weekend after its summer opening. Let’s hope it was deemed a success and that it will return in 2020.

There was no “acting” or torch action today on hex. However one of the ops was doing a bit of acting in the vault like he was cranking up the tree. Very bizarre
