It was so bad on Saturday, when I left the park at 7pm there was still traffic queuing from the hotels and overflow car parks. There was still cars trying to get out the barriers too but 5e traffic was so much the park just can’t cope.

There were staff or managers helping at the barriers, but they need to go down to the hotel car parks and the Galactica car park and traffic manage as those are the furthest away car parks and the worse for getting out.

Bit worried about the crowd levels this Saturday after reading about how bad it was this weekend...

I'll be there on Saturday with my cheapo tickets. I'm sure after last weekend they'll have learnt their lesson and stay open until a reasonable hour

The queue times on Saturday weren't actually that bad given I would estimate 15k on park.

The park *can* handle up to 20k. Throughputs are generally good.

Scarefest and Fireworks will be OK.

The issue is closing at 5pm.

Isn't the maximum capacity 35,000

I think when I worked there it was 32,000. Since then H&S / fire evacuation laws have changed (that led to the demise of the Black Hole) & Merlin have become somewhat safety focused, for reasons obvious. Would not surprise me if they limit capacity to under 30,000 now.

Either way, the park has not got enough rides to cope with that volume of guests and give them a quality day out.

In 2014, park capacity was apparently quoted as being 28,000. Not sure whether that would have changed now.

re the season pass for 2020.
Alton Towers has always offered annual passes, but the cost was always fairly close to the basic MAP price. The sensible thing is to start moving it back that way, by adding £20 or so onto the price this season.
That should be enough to reduce sales, but not become a media own goal.

People are getting confused with the fire limit imposed on Alton Towers and the limit Alton Towers choose to allow in their park. The first limit won’t majorly change as it’s based on square foot of land and the number and size of emergency exits off the property.

The second number will change all the time based on how many guests management think they can handle. The fire limit is somewhere in the early to mid 30,000’s. Currently it seems that the park are not overly comfortable exceeding 27,000ish guests.

Isn't the fireworks guest limit significantly less than normal days because they have to close off three major areas of the park (Dark Forest, Towers/Front lawns and X Sector) during the fireworks therefore can only have the maximum number of people allowed for what is effectively a much smaller park?
