Water parks

I think the London area badly needs one. I know people who really like them and I think one could be successful.

Problem is, the last waterpark experiments in London were a disaster. People have already talked about Fantaseas in this thread; there was also the Croydon Water Palace, which was Europe’s biggest indoor waterpark when it opened in 1990. It racked up huge losses and was dogged by countless health and safety problems (including a young girl breaking her back when she was tossed into the wall of the wave pool). It closed six years later.

That said, if you’re prepared to travel an hour outside London, there are plans for a fairly big waterpark in Oxfordshire:

Does seem odd there aren't more things like this, non in Liverpool or Manchester yet Stoke sort of have two with Water World and Alton Towers Splash Landings.

Used to love Rhyl Sun Centre as a kid, don't think the new SC2 will be anywhere near as large.

The one in Southport isn't awful if you're round that way, I remember the rapids being quite fun.

There used to be a little one in York with the most mental slide, but the council knocked it down for more shops and another leisure centre with just a competition pool and gym :(

Stoke also has the Dimensions Leisure Center pool. Its not quite the epic scale of the other two, but its more than just a swimming pool.

The Wave Coventry will fully open on 21st October and the online booking system goes live on the 14th. Can't wait to visit in half term! :)

It’s had a lot of bad reviews for the prices. Like if I want to take my daughter there it will cost me £25.50 for 3 hours and then you got petrol/parking charges or train fare so your looking at roughly £40.

Yeah it is pretty expensive. The car park opposite is £2 for 3hrs though.

Bump!

Going to Waterworld Stoke next week for the second time in 7 years. Has anyone been since the new slides opened last year?

No - but I have heard it's really beefed up the line up. Before they opened, there hadn't been anything new in 10 years or so...!

Definitely report back, please.

I certainly will! Missed out trying the drop slide in Coventry so I'm hoping to be brave and try Thunderbolt at Waterworld.

As this thread is about the general topic of water parks (presumably UK water parks), I personally think that some of the strongest-looking water parks in this country are actually at Center Parcs holiday parks. I’ve been going to the Longleat property for years, and I think the water park there is smashing, especially since the 2017 expansion!

In terms of water slides, I admit that the body slides perhaps aren’t as strong as some more modern equivalents I’ve been on, but Tropical Cyclone has to be one of my favourite water slides I’ve ever been on, and Typhoon is also really good fun, in my opinion!

The Wild Water Rapids are also really unique and tremendous fun, in my opinion; another of my all-time favourite water park attractions!

There’s also the other fun attractions, like the wave pool and lazy river, the park also has lots of really nice jungle-style landscaping and rock work, and on the whole, I think it’s a smashing place!

I’ve been to The Wave in Coventry and also water world stoke and would say water world is better as it’s got a nice big pool as well as plenty of slides.

The wave felt a little soulless as it’s not themed at all and really lacks a nice big pool and felt a little disjointed.

The new slides at water world are good and the drop slide is also terrifying no matter how many times you do it. The only thing that lets the new slides down is you can tell they’ve been done on the cheap. Very much bolted on to the side of the building with zero theming and a very basic Merlin style tin shed. I know during lockdown they have painted a lot of the water park so hopefully they have sorted the new bit out as well, as it just felt bolted on.
However the slides were very good.

The layout of the slide platforms at the Wave isn't great either. I went last year and am pretty sure I waited 40 mins for a slide at one point. They also closed the stairwells 30 minutes before close... meant I missed out on the drop slide which I'd just found the courage to do. :(

Rapids slide was fantastic though, my favourite there.

We did the wave and it was fairly quiet so did everything, but it’s a weird layout having everything On top of each other, meaning it’s gonna be hard to add much in the future.
