Flamingo Land: General Discussion

Didn't one of these style rides stall at the top of the loop once? In France i think it was. I remember seeing it on the news and everyone hanging from the lap bar haha.

Yes there was a video somewhere, I can't find it, but there were people stuck upside down hanging on for dear life. I believe someone could be seen falling or partially falling.

That can't be quite right, considering Thunder Looper traversed it's loop backwards the forces weren't trying to pin you into your seat, but the opposite!

He means the positive Gs round the loop keep you pressed "down" in to your seat.
The forces of the forward launch would push you "back" in to your seat. The return leg backwards started with freefall so you would float with the seat until the thain bottoms out and the "down" positives take over for the loop.

At least, that's what my dim memory of GCSE physics says. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up, yes exactly what I mean, when you go around the loop, it's a bit like spinning a bucket of water upside down without spilling a drop, due to the positive G's.

The negative G's on the reverse drop won't be enough for you to leave the seat. The same as with the log flume/Valhalla rides which have absolute no restraints what-so-ever

I see what you mean, but it was the same rectangular lump of plastic into your thighs design that the likes of Mary Rose used to literally hang you from while slowly inverting. I'm pretty sure a stall would have been fine! In fact IIRC one did stall mid-loop in the mid 90s somewhere.

The Sirocco coaster, a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop, got stuck upside-down for 1.5 hours in 1997.

I highly highly doubt that a ride would be allowed to operate if a stall would cause riders to fall to their deaths.

The only rides I can think of that rely on forces to keep riders seated are Enterprises and Rotors but in both cases if it stalls you're not going to fall far.

The new coaster is undergoing its pull-through:

Yep. I’ve been on it, great fun. Will have a couple of pics somewhere
First of all, it's called Rotataur now I believe in the Dino-Stone Park area. Secondly, did anyone hear about the accident on one of Flamingo's former coasters called Magnum Force in Mexico where it operates now?

Magnum Force! Oh, if only that ride, as well as Bullet still existed in this country.

Slightly off topic but I do remember back in late 2006 or early 2007 on the old Loudoun Castle Forums that that had been serious talks, during after they got the S&S Tower Launch from Southport, that Loudoun were very close in getting Magnum Force or the Bullet, but I think money and the cost of how much the Tower Launch cost more than they expected put an end to that.

Don't know if this is all true mind you, but if lets say they had got both rides and with the combination of the Schwarzkopf Silverarrow coaster, Twist 'N' Shout, Loudoun would've been the proud owner of three Schwarzkopf coasters and I haven't mentioned the Jet Star 1 coaster they also had lying in a warehouse somewhere, that makes four!

Not sure if that would saved the park in the long term but we could've had a good twin (Loudoun) and and evil twin (M&D's) with Loudoun being called Schwarzkopf-land as what M&D's gets called being Pinfari-Land. :p Oh, if only...

M&D's have probably got one coaster that's not a Pinfari. Most parks including Flamingo used to have a Pinfari or to as was the trend Thunder Mountain and Crazy Loop. But believe me, I'd rather take Tornado at M&Ds or Goudurix at Parc Asterix over Hero or Pain as it should be renamed:p

I know it's rough as hell, but at least Goudurix looks more prettier than that rust bucket known as Tornado!
