This topic has amused me greatly with misinformation and quoting other sources such as twitter and random scientists with no real empirical evidence.
If you dont know what you should be doing by now, there is really no hope.
I am as likely to go to the nhs for rollercoaster advice!
The real statistics just arent out there, probably never will be.
We dont know how many have it, because 99.9999% of the world population have not been tested.
Each nation is different due to its own social interaction and health system.
We simply dont know, accept it.
Go get some fresh air and exercise in the sunshine, while you can, read a book, phone a friend, do some spring cleaning, anything but hanging on to every post in this bloody topic.
New bugs happen every few years.
Always have, always will.
BPB was really nice at the weekend, rides, sun and beer.
Didnt hear a single cough, everyone in the bogs spending a full twenty seconds at the sink.

Bless, you must be new here? This topic is for panicking & trying to make people feel hopeLESS, not hopeful about the situation.

On that note, has anyone seen about that "forced infection" might soon be part of the plan? Like chicken pox parties, but for grownups
(This is a joke, I just made it up for the lols, but then realised some people might take it a bit too seriously in this current environment, because checking facts you read on a roller coaster forum is SOOOOO 2010)

Thanks Doc.

(I'd get your medical advice elsewhere if I were you)

You always this pompus or just trying extra hard today?

Advice was from a Dr on a radio phone in. Lots of fluids they said to help with the chest, and paracetamol to help with aches, pains and temperature. They also said given its winter, most of us have a deficit of Vitamin D (from the sun) and to try and boost these levels as its been proven to help the body fight against viruses.

That friend of mine? Told by her boss she wasn't allowed to work from home and was expected to turn up this morning.
I remind you she works in the civil service. With cabinet ministers.

Meanwhile, the missus just started coughing. When I backed away, she got all offended and said "What? It's just a dry cough!"

Who summoned me?
(That was poorly timed, I was responding to Dar)

Anyway, I have been dreading leaving bed today because all I can look forward to is another full day of my dad, panickedly reading virus news aloud and ranting about how evilRussia or dem evilMuslims have caused this and are now happy that its killing Brits...its exhausting.
I really think something needs to be done about media scare mongering, it's really getting to him. :(

Regardless...
You are all British are you not, so ask yourselves...what would Sir Algernon do?
Be an Algernon...not a Skelvin!

But seriously, for 1 day, unless you can actually make a cure, I want you to not watch or read any news...just for 1 day, then see how you feel by bed time.

I've stopped watching the news and started going outside in the bit of sunshine we are having at the minute. It's bliss. I'm sure the vitamin D from the sun thing is the way to go.

Yup the main problem at the moment is the constant commentary on the issue. You've got random doctors turning up on TV arguing against the government's advice. That is categorically not something that should be happening at the moment. It creates confusion, panic and the general public completely ignoring official advice that has been issued. Sure they are doctors, but they do not necessarily have access to the data that has allowed the Chief Medical Officer and the relevant teams to issue the advice that they have so far.

In addition, you've got the likes of Piers Morgan allowed to run riot and rant his own opinion against the government advice on a daily basis. Hell, we had Caprice today arguing that a two week lockdown would definitely work and solve the whole situation no problem because she'd read it in the paper :banghead:.

Commentary is fine for issues where it isn't a matter of public health. For this though, the media have a duty to simply report the facts in a sensible manner. That said, it doesn't excuse the government's methods of communication so far. Off record briefings, different officials saying different things and the infamous "downing street source". I hope today marks a turning point with the daily briefings now taking place and the unofficial methods of communication nipped in the bud.

I can't help but notice a sudden reduction, nay, almost total absence of life insurance adverts on daytime TV.

At the same time, I keep seeing ads for will writing services.
"Isn't it about time you updated your will...?"

In other news from 03/01/2020 to 21/02/2020 there were 15,147 deaths in England and Wales due to normal flu and associated respiratory complications.

I do wonder why there has never been a complete meltdown on this scale each year with the damage that seasonal flu does.

Serious question for the people who are panicking? Why are you worried about this strain of flu and not the seasonal one which kills thousands each year?

I know that this post will be overlooked as it doesnt fit the panic that the country is in, but these figures are available on the national statistics website for deaths and are available weekly. If I remember, I will post the new figures to see how much of an impact Covid 19 is actually having on numbers of deaths.

Maybe because this is a new virus and not a new strain of the seasonal flu virus that has been around for years. And because it is a new virus no-one has any form of immunity to it.

If it was not such a serious matter then countries would not be destroying their economies for it. That is clear.

Just seen adverts for cremation services. Never spotted those before.

Shelves are nearly empty in my local Co-Op. I bought their last packet of fags.

My houseguest, whom some of you may know, is making plans to perform a DJ set on my balcony, should we end up in proper lockdown.

So do you think in a months time we will be seeing on average 1,893 deaths each week in England and Wales as a direct link of Covid 19? That number is the current weekly average this calendar year of seasonal flu (and respiratory complications) in England and Wales. I personally don't, not even close. As tragic as the current number of Worldwide deaths is, 6,500 over 3 1/2 months, it's nothing to the number worldwide who will die of seasonal flu.

I firmly believe this is a complete over reaction from media, people and governments. Maybe there has been an agenda somewhere to cause panic across the World.

I am not panicking about Covid 19 and thats from someone whose wife has a suppressed immune system due to the medication she is on. Neither is she.

We're all different. Some people are panicing. Some people are worrying. Some people are totally fine with it all. Some people are a mixtute of many different emotions. There is no right or wrong, we are in unchartered territory at the moment. For me the uncertainty of everything is just as, if not more, concerning as the virus.

'Only' 1 more UK confirmed death today so far. That's much lower than i was expecting given it jumped a fair bit over weekend.

I wonder why we seem to have avoided the Italian situation given their first confirmed case of Covid-19 was only a day before us.

Is it dumb luck? Is it something they have done to make it spread more? Or is it taking longer here to get to their levels?

It makes no sense to me.

The situation in Italy is very different to that in the UK. In Italy, the mjority of the cases came in one or two regions, meaning the hospitals that served those regions become overwhelmed very quickly. In the UK the outbreaks seem to be across the whole country with no real known hotspots as of yet.

Yeah I guess. Let's hope we don't get any hotspots then. My wife is a nurse so i know she's going to be incredibly busy next 4/5 months.
