There's definitely a correlation between the people who voted in Boris and co. and those who want to ignore everything his government has to say in this time of crisis.

Just an observation, not sure how much you can read into it.

Interesting. From what I have observerd, it seems to be all the middle aged, middle class hippies and invincible 20-something marxists (who think Boris is second only to Trump on the Satan scale) that are ignoring government advice, simply because of what colour rosette it comes from.

;)

Most interaction I've seen with coppers was a bunch of them outside Asda (just in case we stormed the place?) where a older lady jokingly told them off for setting a poor example with the distancing.

But then again I live right by a supermarket and a park. So I literally have no reason to drive anywhere without valid reason. So if the coppers did stop me when driving that's a valid reasoning.

Me driving over to Temple Newsam for example to run the dog around in this current climate is utterly irresponsible, so no wonder I'd get pulled up on it.

Yet it's the elderly who've not kept two metres away from me on my last shopping trip and walk. They should be taking extra care but they seem blissfully ignorant.

With the old folks, I'm working in the basis that they are all just BLEEP dumb, tbh. ;)

Again, I don't disagree with you, the law does. Ignorance of or disagreement with the law is not a defence. In all honesty, people rarely give me jip because I take the trouble to explain myself and the law clearly.

I've never said you can't go out to exercise. Would you like to point out where I did? My message gas been consistent, do what the law says.

Probably low priority unless guided by other intelligence, but if there is nothing much else going on then it is still the right thing to do.

Nope, you are allowed out for the legislated reasons only.

People do need to know they have to abide by the rules, if they don't think they have to and that it is not being enforced a fair few will not comply with them. This thread is a great example of the mindset of some. You'd be amazed at hat people think is acceptable right now. You don't need too many people thinking they are above this and the virus is spreading again.

You seem to have an issue with the bigness and burleyness of coppers. Any reason for that? Are the slight and petite ones OK? Sorry we haven't got any PPE, I'm sure you can imagine how pleased we are about that ourselves. Doesn't mean police can retreat though.

That would be reactive policing. Once people have got together that ship has sailed, the virus may have spread between the group. Engaging with people before they meet is proactive and far more effective.

We don't bring in legislation, the government does. This is not a police decision, it's a central government one. People behaving as they currently are will be good reason, and not for some underhand sinister reason, but to save people from their own stupidity.

Back to being civil, is there two of you? LOL
A lot of what you say I don't disagree with there, as for burly coppers I don't have a problem with them, tbh I e never seen a petit one, and you are correct yes, the Government bought in the legislation not you, you're just doing as you are told.

However I still object to being expected to justify my actions if I am out on my own.

In the current circumstances, I cannot see anything unreasonable about a police officer asking why I am out on the street.
But I dont have a big chip on my shoulder with authority.
I have been out a great deal over the last few days helping out housebound people, and I have had two civil, brief conversations with police officers, without problems.
With the amount of idiotic anti-authoritarian bile on here recently, I wish there was an "ignore topic" button.

The anti-authoritarian bile is because some of us are used to not having to justify our actions to a police officer just because we dare step outside of the house, you may be happy with this for now, might not be so in 18 months time (because your favourite experts at ICL say lockdown may have to stay in force until a vaccination is found, in about 18 months).

There's definitely a correlation between the people who voted in Boris and co. and those who want to ignore everything his government has to say in this time of crisis.

Just an observation, not sure how much you can read into it.

So becuase I question something that automatically makes me as one who wants to ignore the advice?

I've only stepped outside the front door about 3 times this week, my issue is having to justify it whenever I do.

Maybe if the Goverment did proper testing, would we get an accurate figure as to how dangerous this desease really is, instead of having to rely on potentially unreliable computer modelling. Germany has an incredibly low mortality rate, because they are testing a lot more and finding that a lot of people have Coronovirus but very few actually become ill from it. I was amazed that Boris and Matt(?) were able to get through their social media announcements about their infections, without coughing once, 7 minutes for Boris, very impressive.

Wow, quite surprised at some of the comments on here ! 260 just died in the last 24 hours. Tomorrow will be over 300, and so on. Spain just had under 900 deaths today. These are from people who were out and about within the last 14 days, and from those who have been out and about recently. If you stay in, you can't catch it.

As for driving places. Living in Devon I am surrounded by fields and places to visit. But I don't. I have Dartmoor about 20 minutes away and I can walk for miles and not meet anyone. But I don't.

Why? Well firstly there's the car. What if it breaks down. I have to call someone out, there's interaction. What if I had an accident, there's interaction, an ambulance may be needed, someone might need to go hospital which is already crazy busy and quite frankly the last place you'd want to go right now. Let's say you walk for miles on a mountain... Get lost, or fall and injure yourself... You call for help etc etc.

I see no harm with opening your front door, walking down the street for half an hour away from others, or just sitting in the back garden.

I'm just thankful I am not one of those people dying at the moment, or one of the relatives who couldn't say goodbye to a loved one.

Stay indoors. It's not difficult and the sooner we all do this the sooner this will be over.

....and your point is? 450 people died yesterday from cancer too, and the day before, and the day before that as well. Tomorrow another 450 will die from cancer, and the day after that, another 450 again.

On top of that, 800 people also died on every one of those days too just from old age alone.

OK we get it, people are dying from it, but let's have a bit of perspective.... Please?

You don't catch cancer by being in the vicinity of someone else with cancer, or touching something they touched a couple of hours later. That is an irrelevance.

The health service, no health service, could ever cope with the influx occuring. These measures are to stop that as far as is possible.

Back to being civil, is there two of you? LOL
A lot of what you say I don't disagree with there,

Not changed tact, not changed message. I take it you couldn't find where I'd changed my opinion on taking exercise then?

I look forward to hearing how that goes for you...

Come on that's a bad attitude to have. People who die from cancer get to have their loved ones by their side. They get to take their last breath and say goodbye holding hands with their loved ones. People with covid19 go to hospital on their own. They die on their own. They don't get to say goodbye. They don't even get a proper funeral. Many will go to a mass grave.

And yeah people are dying from cancer but cancer can't be stopped. This virus can be stopped if people stop being ignorant thinking only of themselves and stop going out. A virus needs a host. Cancer develops in the body on its own accord.

And that's over 1000 people who died from this virus so far who didn't need to as will many more. Let's also not forget those desperately ill with cancer who were due to have operations which have now been cancelled and many will die. Again they could have been saved if the numbers coming in to hospital were lower.

I don't get what is so difficult for people to grasp but stay indoors. It may be for a month, or two months but the sooner we get through this the better.

True you don't get cancer through touch, as far as we know anyway.
Still doesn't change the fact that COVID19 deaths are still eclipsed by even something as simple as old age, it's just perspective, just perspective....

Oh you wanted me to answer that?
Well first off (in answer to my question) you said it was ok, then you said that I shouldn't be out without reason when I asked why you felt it justified to hassle a person walking alone (I.e. Taking exercise) and then you said again, it's ok to take exercise.

Was just a little conflicting.

I look forward to hearing how that goes for you...

Well I shall let you know how it goes if it ever happens, but since I have no plans to go out again until Tuesday to pick up my click and collect, it may be a while before I get back to you on that....

Exercise is one of the legislated reasons, so that is good reason. Never in doubt or questioned. Being asked to account for the reasons for your being out is entirely right and justified when you shouldn't be without good reason. We are not living in normal times.

I think a crisis of this magnitude is being met with a lot of confirmed bias, both by certain members on here and within the public at large. Nice to know that people are aware of their rights, but it's true that we are temporarily not living in normal times. If you're inside driving yourself mad with hypothetical situations concerning being 'harassed' by police officers while out on an imaginary jog, perhaps you can now imagine how it feels to be a young, black man just walking around a city, minding your own business, or even an activist attempting to protest actual curbing of civil liberties or surveillance.

The rules here are really simple, and the minimum is being asked of the public. I do not have a bonk on for authority, either.

Right I just think that this topic is just getting to the point of people having a pop at each other..... I understand that a forum is a place to have your say and I get that but looking st the last few pages it just seems people are just at each other.....

Yeah I read this forum more that I post but lately it just seems to have gotten a tad personal in this topic......

Perhaps a quick brief from Mods on the situation may help......

Like I say I dont expect people to get on regardless of opinion or what job they do or who they voted for.

Just stay safe and observe what's best to do is all I can say.

Sorry if this seems a bit ranty I just think this topic has come close fo the knuckle for some people

Ill thought through resistance to the current legislation and policing of it absolutely should be called out and I will not stop or apologise for doing so. It'll be literally killing people.

None of my posts are aimed at any person for any reason other than the opinion they are putting in front of me. I don't care who they are or what their political allegiance might be.

You can't take measures to prevent the wider spread of the virus without some impacts on our freedoms. It's not possible.

@IanSR yes from what I've heard many people can have the virus and show no or very mild symptoms. These are not the people we're trying to protect. It's the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, those with leukaemia etc. The "herd immunity" idea would kill these vulnerable people.

Yet it's the elderly who've not kept two metres away from me on my last shopping trip and walk. They should be taking extra care but they seem blissfully ignorant.

Yep, is the elderly I see meeting up with other households down our road for a good old chinwag, completely ignoring the 2 meter rule

In other news, all that panic buying is going to waste, absolutely disgusting as people including the elderly and the disabled are going hungry because of these selfish people. Only purchase what you need, don't be greedy
