Trip Planning 2023/24: Information, advice and questions!

If it’s under the ‘hot deals’ promotional rate then this does still fall under the 3 days cancellation rate. I’d assume they’ve changed the rules this year off the back of Covid and allowed them to be cancelled. The difference between that and the unrestricted rate is that you pay in advance.

Just as a side note for future reference, as the cancellation policy above would cover you anyway in this case. You would only get money back through a credit card company if the service or product you booked could not be provided by the company you bought it from. So if you booked a hotel separately, but it was still open for business yet you were unable to travel, the credit card company would not uphold a chargeback. The credit card company will not take travel restrictions into account as you booked things individually. The only exception to this would be if you booked a package holiday (flight and hotel through the same provider) and the company refused to refund, as they are legally obligated through the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations.

Thank you

which site is that from? I was looking at Kronasar (direct on the website) - and didn't see any button or option for fare rules (I was looking for such a thing).

And thanks for the CC tips - makes sense! My friend suggested that the airline may be liable for your hotel if they cancel and you therefore have to cancel hotel etc - or at least you could try and claim through them! Or that travel insurance may cover it!?

No problem :). That's from the Europa-Park hotel app, but on the website if you click on fare rules once you select a room it'll show on there:

If you booked only your flights with the airline, then they would be under no responsibility to cover any sort of additional costs such as hotels I'm afraid, I know that's suggested by some online but you've got no chance of any consequential losses being covered. Their contract with you is to provide transport only, so if the flight was cancelled they'd refund the flight cost and that's it. The only exception would be if you happened to book a package with them directly (flight and hotel), they would then be under a responsibility to provide everything that you paid for or refund you if part of that was cancelled.

Travel insurance is highly unlikely to cover you, most have an exemption for Covid related impact when the booking is made after it became a pandemic. However, check with your insurer as each one is different.

It's the downside of booking trips at the moment I'm afraid, everything is very up in the air and subject to change. If you're flying, that's the most likely element of a trip that's going to be cancelled or amended. Everything else that forms part of your trip should be amendable as near as possible to your trip date. Staying on site, you're in luck on that front, as the two other most expensive elements of the trip, hotel and park tickets can be cancelled up to 3 days before the trip.

Thanks, really useful info, but is only good as long as your flight is cancelled before then - which I'd hope it would be!

do you know if Europa would move your dates or kind of give you a credit note for rooms if you rang them up if that happened?

It's fairly unlikely a flight would be cancelled within 7 days of it occurring, unless there was something like technical problems. In general, they tend to go ahead within that timeframe.

In terms of what Europa-Park would do, as Alsty said they're pretty accommodating and understanding, however based on the booking rules anything they did do would be on a goodwill case by case basis. So I wouldn't bet on credit or bookings being moved 100% if that happened. It's likely, but don't consider it to be guaranteed.

Fab! thanks for you help, will really help put my mind at rest/know what to consider

The sensible thing would be just wait till things improve......But you' know.......Europa!!!

The sensible thing is to wait, but it's nice to get away ain't it! It is completely do-able (I did a trip myself 4 weeks ago). The park isn't 100% at the moment, so wouldn't recommend visiting for first timers, but if you've been before it's fine - we still had a fantastic time!

You just have to plan for the unexpected (amendable bookings etc) to minimise the risk of losing money :).

Yeah would be my 4th Visit - and it would me mainly to experience Kronasar and Rulantica but of course of course have a couple days in the park - experience the new Pirates etc - and would be the first time on my own!

What is the best way to get to Europa Park from Manchester now considering Basel is technical in France and the quarantine zone?

Drive to Stansted and fly to Karlsruhe

Thanks will be giving it a miss then as I'd rather eat sandpaper than drive to London or fly from a London airport. Sure Manchester airport is also awful but it doesn't involved driving to London.

Stansted is not in London (I wish Ryanair would get a map and realise that!)

It’s over 40 miles outside London. So basically not in London at all.

You can get to to Stansted without going anywhere near London!

Drive from Manchester (M6), then A14 then M11.

Done.

It's about an hour north of London? I don't really understand. You get there without even going near London or the M25. There aren't suddenly clowns of idiots on the roads the moment you hit the M11!

:p

Not interest in hiring a car to drive hours to a airport near London. I've been to Stanstead airport before and have no interest in going to that airport again. I avoid all "London" airports. Manchester airport is vile but I don't have to hire a car to drive several hours to get there.

I'd honestly prefer take public transport to Glasgow airport than go to a "London" airport. In the event I'll wait until I can fly from either Manchester or Liverpool.

Eurostar?

Sounds like you hate everything about flying so why not try the train.
