Ignore the 20% off logos, once you select one it shows 40%

I don't have a pass, but thanks.

It got sent out in an email, if you don't have one,

Ooooh £117 for what should be fireworks Sunday is a good price. need to work out if it is worth it and whether fireworks will actually happen.

Don’t suppose there’s any hotel offers floating around is there? Planning a summer trip as something to look forward to!

It was run last year but the number of tickets given out was significantly lower than normal, it was more to get the advertising splashed all over the sun than anything. Plus it was before they knew how busy they would be for the season.

Based on the fact they regularly sold out of tickets with the numbers capped they may not decide to run the promotion this year at all. If they do decide to run it I imagine it won’t be until after June time when there is a possibility of social distancing requirements being reduced or removed.

Outside of the covid issue, Merlin seem to be moving away from their previous strategy of giving the gate away for free or close to free, so this promotion might have had its card marked already anyhow.

They ran it last year?

Yes but that was before anyone knew what would happen with Covid and the deal with the Sun would have been agreed when as far as Alton/merlin where concerned they would be opening and operating as normal.

They ran it in the summer last year instead of spring, after the first lockdown, when Merlin were well aware of the situation.

The 50% off tickets with bottles of carex hand soaps etc are still running as normal on the website.

Re the sun promotion remember it's basically an advertising campaign for both. The sun will pay Merlin £xxxxx for xxxxxx number of tickets to offer readers and whilst it won't be the same amount per person if booked directly it'll still be a decent cash injection which will help the business.

Then there's all the cross sales through word of mouth, people getting 2 tickets on a particular day but need to buy an additional 2 as they're a party of 4 etc.

Sun reader vouchers started yesterday, and here is the amusing news...
Discounts on F&B and Fasttrack for Sun voucher users.
20% off both single shot fasttracks and meals for two, plus cheap donuts and golf.
I can hear teeth grinding...

Mine are grinding right now. Not content with allowing people in for free, now they're dishing out in park spend discounts too. Who the hell is deciding this crap? Promoting Fastrack Discounts? Please...

I guess what they are doing is trying to ensure that there is at least some spend by the freebie guests. If Sun visitors bring a packed lunch and don't bother with fastrack then tye park are on to even more of a loser.

This whole thing is a disgusting mess. With the capacity issues they've had I'm shocked they've not used Covid as a way to ditch this and realign the entry cost to the true value of what they are offering.

Yeah that's not good at all. A recip[ie for disaster I think!

And to add further grinding, the small print details state there will be 9,400 bank holiday/school holiday tickets, and 13,250 weekend tickets.
I hope they do off peak weekday tickets as well, I don't want to be mixing with all those paying customers.
