Oh dear; it would appear that the park is getting lambasted about today in the Birmingham Mail: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/waste-day-out-alton-towers-20369718

The park and whatever other establishment they want to target will be "lambasted" by the tabloids no matter what. See the shots of coastal resorts with zoom lenses during the last relaxation of restrictions for further evidence of this.

Sadly journalism these days consists of searching for random tweets from relatively anonymous accounts that allow the writer to confirm the opinion they have already got set in their head. A negative view of others gives them the clicks they require on the website.

Of course some people did not keep apart in the queues on occasion, it's the same in supermarkets etc. But regular automated announcements and staff coming round generally ensured people them spaced out at the queues continued to move.

In terms of Mixtape, that ride just needs to settle in on the loading procedures front. It's not that the queue is all that large, it's just it's taking a considerable amount of time between cycles to get going again. It'll settle in as time goes on. It's a fun little ride though, good for a laugh!

If it proves popular, they could buy one of them as a permanent ride. Because of it's slight resemblance to the Marmalizer in it's shape, they could theme it to that with the story that the Ministry of Joy have made the Marmalizer move to make people even more happy!

I was thinking about that actually! Would not suprise me at all if they bought a pernament Smashing Jump given the temorary one's poplularity. I'd be delighed if they did. :)

I think painted black with Smiler yellow and oblivion orange decals it would work quite well

This is cool, but it would be cooler if they kept all rides and the theming behind them. The retro part makes it exciting :)

Anyone who has visited , are the CBeebies shows currently going ahead , or is it just character meets ? I also noticed the app shows the Towers as open 10-8 , are the ruins themselves open this year?

Also, common reviews of points to note about the Retrosquad that I've watched -
Roller Disco - fun, but out of the way so you wouldn't necessarily know it was there unless you queue for Th13teen
Funk'n'Fly - apparently quite intense, people who don't get dizziness from rides have been saying this one has caught them off guard
Mixtape - the best of the three apparently, not intense but good fun!

I'm glad the park hasn't gone completely dead in the last hours with multiple rides on a hour+ queue so hopefully on my next visit in June they'll hopefully carry on later openings and I can actually make a day out of it, check out the shops, maybe even eat on site and have a more steady pace to the day.
Instead of the usual running from one ride to the other until the day comes to an early halt.

The queues are very inaccurate anyway so I wouldn't take too much from what they say on the app. How can Nemesis go from 60 mins to 10. Oblivion and Enterprise have been on 30 since 2pm. They're not updating the queues it's bloody annoying. They should be doing it every 15 mins
Edit: There's another example Rita has gone from 60 to 0, it's so silly

It’s 7:37pm and Wicker Man is still 75 minutes, Smiler is still 40, Thirteen is still 35; the late openings are clearly working out!

Some overall thoughts on the park for 2021:

- Wicker Man improvements overall looking great. Brilliant to see so much smoke all over the place again and bringing it back to opening year state, if not better (less the dead shoulder).
- Towers St looks fresh and bright for the most part. Frogs particularly nice.
- Longer opening hours could not be more welcome. You can easily get all rides in without undertaking a precision planned military operation and still have time for a sit down
- Retrosquad seemingly very popular and highlights real need and demand for filler rides. Definitely improved the day
- Just Chicken quality vastly improved. Real lack of grab and go options other than burgers and hotdogs across park however. A general lack of food altogether from Gloomy Wood onwards (except RCR).
- Very nice to see the Monorail for the first time in ages! Station and queue really showing its age but it has for many years.
- Th13teen beginning to really need attention. The station has rotted considerably which is most noticeable in the final stretch of the outdoor queue as the ‘stone’ blocks are warped and peeled away.
- Rita has almost entirely new queueline fencing which has been done very poorly but will probably become less noticeable over time. To be honest I just wish they would bulldoze DF altogether.
- Rapids look and ride terrible.
- Most coasters could really do with a repaint - they are past the point of a jetwash cutting it.

Obviously I have many more comments - good and bad - but these are ‘new for 2021’ so to speak :D
