Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Every park has issues with social distancing and enforcement of the rules.
Blackpool on monday had lots of "issues", caused by people ignoring the advice and the legal instruction given.
All queues had problems through the day.

Much of it does come down to responsibility of individuals, although cattle pen style queue lines are not helpeful when it comes to trying to maintain social distancing. I personally feel that face coverings should be mandated in queue lines, which I think is the case at Europa-Park (and maybe other European parks?).

Or at least add some perspex to make people feel safer too in the cattle pen zig zags.

I think the changes reinforce the fact that Merlin really lack any type of show quality standards. They continue to ruin themeing and replace it with much cheaper “improvements”. It reminds me very much of the refurb of Duel, which was clearly done with good intentions but actually makes the experience worse.

It’s quite shocking to think how amateurish some of this stuff is for such a large company.

Most of those decisions would be at a park level not company wide. Yes the budget for maintenance is set at Merlin level, but it would be the parks decision to paint tidal wave in that way. For me though, although tidal wave looks too bright its fine, it will ease down with time, its the dome that looks awful, there is no direction to it at all, a mismatch of beach style and modern styles. I get the old atlantis stuff was out of date but now it just feels souless, no sense of what it wants to be at all. But I think that describes a lot of Thorpe Park.

Thorpe seems to have consistent issues with social distancing. Is it a capacity issue or is there simply a lack of stewards and guides?
It's both lack of stewardship and clientele. I wasn't expecting it to be as good here as it was at EP and Towers last season but it's worse than I even thought. In queue lines I've been hit in the back three times already in the first hour and a half they're that close. Floor markings and mask guidance aren't the issue, or the automated announcements it just seems tolerated. At one point, some teenage girl was so close to be she was stood beside me.

The baggage hold on Saw is still in place. The dome does indeed look like a leisure centre and has been completely ruined. Both the toilets under the Dome and next to the Swarm have no running water from the taps. The queue times are completely inaccurate. App not matching entrance signs, rides advertised as 5 mins when clearly close to an hour, which they can't blame social distancing for because there isn't any going on.

If I recall correctly, if toilet facilities on commercial premises have no handwash facility, they must be closed by law.
There is hand sanitiser but no running water. That's not good enough in normal times.

For the first time today I've just seen social distancing marshal's with a mega phone. But the compliance is so poor, they'll need to shout at everyone. If I could put a figure on SD compliance at Towers last season I would say I saw around 60% compliance, Europa around 70%, today here is around 5-10%.

You’ve not seen poor enforcement of social distancing and mask rules until you’ve visited Energylandia! Would make Thorpe look like a haven.

To be fair, I think it was probably the foot button things. I stomped on a couple, they didn't work so I used sanitiser.

Gosh. The entrance plaza at ATR has been a dream compared to the above. Sounds like they need to man manage a little better. Hopefully it can be addressed. All things considered, the disaster days of a TP opening week seem to have gone? The park's operations seem to have been generally OK?

Mayhem today. Too many ppl in park. Too many fast tracks sold. Rap and ft for inferno was back to the rumber smoking shelters.

Saw reopened about 3:45 and main que was 120 mins with ft and rap back to archway by saw drop.

Same old meh

Oh. My balloon of hope just burst.

Only been to Thorpe twice, on free sun reader tickets both times.
Off peak, school time weekdays in spring and autumn.
Once with a mate, once in a family group.
Had a great time each time with no problems, got on all the coasters each time without big queues or chav issues, staying in the Chertsey Travelodge.
Boy did we strike it lucky!
